riveting new brake shoe linings

Post by redstone65 »

Any recommendation on what type of shop can rivet new linings on? I'd like to buy quality linings and have them put on my existing webs instead of just chain store replacement shoes.

Most large(r) cities will have several shops that specialize in Clutch & brake relining, not sure how receptive they will be to you bringing your own linings ??

You need to find the oldest parts store that has a machine shop or an old machine shop with the right machines to do the job. We used to have a parts store that did brake work. But they closed up when the owner died.

What 36truck said. Find an old shop, the kind that doesn’t have a website and doesn’t show up on a google search. If they ask you who you know that goes there, then you know you’re in the right place lol.

Scored on 2 fronts today. For anyone else close to my area:

- Lee Rodgers Tire in downtown Birmingham is turning my front drums. They are the only local place I could find that still had a machine that would do it.

- Automotive Friction, also in downtown Birmingham, will re-line the shoes.

Thanks for the help guys.
