Horn button springs

Thanks to the Camp fire,my stash of horn button springs are either lost in the rubble or have been heat treated beyond repair. Anyone out there have some spares? I need at least two.

You could try to retemper the ones that have been in the fire.
Heat to non magnetic 1450 quench in oil.
Warm to maybe 400 let cool. If spring is to stiff reheat to a higher temperature and let cool.

Blackwaterforge : thanks I was wondering how to do that,I actually only have one left that I might try that with. How would I achieve 1450* with only an acetylene set up?

difficult with torch without overheating. The easiest way is to find a piece of heavy tubing the spring will fit in.
Heat the tube with the spring inside until the spring is no longer magnetic (1450) heat a little higher because material must be at critical temp (1450) when it goes into quench. Almost any low viscosity oil will work. Peanut oil works well. Transmission fluid works as well. Quench spring until its just warm enough to smoke the oil. Outside is best. Quench oil in metal container with lid to snuff it out if it flashes.

Have you tried looking for a Similar spring ?
I bought an assortment box of springs from harbor freight
Lots of sizes
Cut to length yourself ....
They arent the best quality
But probably be plenty good for the purpose you intend
Very handy to have in the toolbox for $5 bucks

Thanks Pat, I will pick one up the next time I go there, but from the pics they do not have one near big enough to keep the Horn ring/button off the steering wheel.
