Chasing a problem

Post by slick4x4 »

Yesterday was a hill-uv-a adventure ....
I run a small (200 homes) water district ....
Tower started dropping fast (big leak)
Started looking at 3am
Figured out it was in an area of about 4 miles of line
We have had so much rain
Every ditch has water in it
And the grass is very tall (hampers seeing much)
We walked lines , I was in places with poison ivy and mammoth mosquitoes
Absolutely could figure it out....
Cut a line in the middle so we could see if it was on the north or south half
Figured it was in the bottom of a creek .....
Man was i wrong :cussing:
Finally discovered it
About 100' feet from where we had parked
In nice short grass on a hill.....
But the water couldn't be seen whatsoever from the road
And we hadn't walked it because there was no way the leak was there.......
Finally got home at 6pm .... long hard day... but success & people could have water that night

Which made me think of this .... diagnosing problems
Engine problems , such as stumbles , or hard starting , or not running
Can sometimes be VERY hard to figure out
Ive had ignition problems I've blamed on fuel....
Ive had fuel problems I've blamed on ignition
And diagnosing over the internet Can be a REAL challenge

Best thing sometimes is to walk away & just think
Have to be open minded & not have tunnel vision

WOW..... how many times have I been THERE. AND, I came to that same conclusion. I've even had things on my mind that I couldn't figure out when I went to bed, only to sit straight up in the bed at 2:30 in the morning with the answer. I'd get dressed, drive 7 miles to my shop, and fix whatever it was before I forgot it.
