Can’t find vin.
Can’t find vin.
I’m trying to ID a truck in a salvage yard. The doors are gone. I looked on the right frame rail but didn’t see any vin. Is this the place to find the vin? Also, how rare is it to find a slick with the Bendix power steering box?
Re: Can’t find vin.
The VIN on my 63 is on top of the frame rail in the battery box. 65 is on top of the right frame rail inline with the cooling fan. No idea on the power steering box.busboy wrote:I’m trying to ID a truck in a salvage yard. The doors are gone. I looked on the right frame rail but didn’t see any vin. Re: Can’t find vin.
should be near the shock tower, try using some rough sandpaper to scuff the top rail. also top rail under passenger door, use a mirror.

It does not matter what you think, it only matters what you do about it!

Yup, the forward location, which looks easy enough to view in the pic below (from FORDIFICATION)
But it can be a PITA when all the sheetmetal is still there:)
On my '66, it was basically directly under the lower edge of the inner fenders, took some scouting to find it, and some sandpaper before I was able to read it!

Found it! Had to use some 80 grit on the frame rail.
