Rear drive shaft too short
Rear drive shaft too short
I have a 66 longbed and me and my son took the bed off and we changed the leaf spring shackles. The new replacements looked just like the old original ones. I took the drive shafts out and put in new universal joints. I had the truck painted and the other day I was putting the drive shafts back in. The forward shaft went in just fine, but the rear part of the shaft is about 3 or 4 inches short. What could have happened. The shackles weren't anything for dropping the frame or anything.

Re: Rear drive shaft too short
You put the springs in backwards. They are longer on rear that front.

If restoring a ford was easy, chevy guys could do it.

That was exactly the problem. Thank you. Sorry for the long reply delay, been sick.

I´m surprised the brake line going to the rear axle still fit with the rear being moved that far back.

the brake hose is long enough to handle the rear end
moving vertical up & down quite a ways ...
3" inches horizontal wouldnt hardly be noticeable
