So I purchased a bed bolt kit for my 63 long bed and I was wondering if anybody else has purchased this same kit. The carriage bolts are 11/16" fine thread. I go to install these on my truck and the nut goes on as far as where the bolt starts then you really have to crank down on these to get them on, doesn't seem right I thought the nut would spin all the way on then I would tighten it. The nut is so hard to tighten that the carriage bolt just spins in place, has anybody else have this problem?
thanks sorry for the rant just frustrated.

Re: Bed Bolt kit
I haven’t bought one
But I’m thinking your kit has a “locking nut”
I’ve seen those style, stupid crazy to tighten
I prefer the ones with nylon inserts

Re: Bed Bolt kit
Sounds like they used top lock nuts. They are good at locking but not so much fun to tighten in a situation like this. Also you might want to put a little anti sieze on them. They have a tendency to gall.

I hate to hear you're having trouble with the bed bolts too. I ran into the same deal on a set of cab mounts for another truck. Wound up getting regular nuts and lock washers but when a carriage bolt spins in a hole, that's tough to recover from. Let us know how this turns out.

I ended up getting regular fine thread nuts and using lock washers.
