352 Police Interceptor

Post by Bill »

I saw this and thought the police “352 BIG BLOCK POLICE INTERCEPTOR ENGINE” claim was interesting. A little more than I can afford though.

just looks like any old FE to me. Might as well call it a 428 or a 442.... takin somebody's word is beggin to be lied to. Don't that guy know it?

nice truck though.
all that white stuff is incredibly clean. I hardly believe it.

Only FE based 352 CID P/I offered by FoMoCo I recall was the 360 HP version, solid lifter, engine in 1960.

Ford certainly did not install FE engines in trucks at the time, and it's not very likely FoMoCo would retro install 60 engines in 65 trucks either.
SO I say. . . . . . . . . . . . ?

By 1965 FoMoCo was into 427 CID's & Std P/I engine was the 335 HP version of the 390 CID FE, actually a Premium Fuel, slightly modified engine available to all in certain, select, performance vehicles of 65 Automobile line up. 390 FE was available to a few, select Ford employees in '66 trucks. They came with a "Funky" DSO #. I Never saw FoMoCo ever claim, admit, or advertise, putting 390's in F-100s, especially their 65 model Trucks. :)

So IMHO, it's a plain Jane 65 F-100 with a 352 FE & not much else beyond a good story, :rotflmao: if you like fairy tales. :rotflmao:

so they got 360 horses out of a 352, but only 335 out of a 390? wow... that stinks.

employee benefits were cool. funny how they wont admit to it... haha

so did the guys get to put sweet parts in a truck and say "save this one for me, I'm buyin it", or what?

My Father had a 58 plain white Contry Sedan Station Wagon with the P/I engine. I remember it because of the solid lifters, it burned a valve, and a 4v Holly carb. He got it new from the Ford Dealer in Antioch, Ca. In 64 the Dealer was Very pleased to get it back in trade for a 64 Galaxie XL. The car was very fast for a wagon.

Just a note, all the cheaper 58's had solid lifters, only the more expensive cars came with hydraulic lifters (Tbirds and Galaxies ordered with the more powerful engines). There was no special police engine for 58 or 59, police cars all got the same engine as any other car in those years. Your father just happened to buy a 4 barrel car which is rare enough on its own as the vast majority of cars were 2 Bbl's. The 352 was actually quite a performer especially compared to the 312. If I remenber right the valve covers said T-Bird on them and it was listed as a P/I engine from Ford. I wish I had it back now, but the 64 Galaxie was a great car, some of it is in my 64 Galaxie that I drive today.

:iagree: I agree with Hawkrod. :thumright:

NO P/I engines after Dual Quad 270hp/ 312 V8s &"Paxton Blown" 312/300 Hp V8s, FoMoCo sold as Police Interceptors in 1957,
until 1960 352 X 360Hp, Solid Lifter engines in 60 Galaxie Bodies, said nothing on rocker covers & it was 1960 Only.

Lots of "Gearheads" like me bought Paxton huffed 312 X 300hp rated V8s, but it wasn't "qwik", tho it was fast once stoked & rolling. shrug.gif

:hm: We were sadly disappointed as powerpack 283 4v's from Brand X made us feel foolish for sure. oops.gif  oops.gif

Police departments weren't impressed either. 1957-312 engines did not like to sit & idle long if they were more than a 245 hp 4v version. nono.gif
