Did I accidentally kick Truckfarmer's dog?
I think its a yankee plot to freeze me to death.
Breakfast and conversation were both good as usual, but they don't have grits up here.

ALAN: Grits are a 'grommet delicacy which (apparently) can only TRULY be enjoyed by residents of the Southern United States and Texas. It's made from ground corn and although traditionally served at breakfast, can also enjoyed with a variety of meats and seafood at other meals...shrimp, fried fish, etc. For more info: GOOGLE GRITS!

TRUCKFARMER: Do you think Skip's powers include "rainmaking" as well as "snowmaking"? Lots of folks in the SE could use some rain...maybe a new career?

grits

Post by Truckrat »

:rotflmao:  No Grits!!! Oh Man! As a fellow southerner I wouldn't expect you would find grits up that far north, but I thought everybody knew what Grits are. Alan, you are immune since
you are on the other side of the world from here. All I can say is if you ever come to the states, look me up and I'll buy you a big bowl of 'em for breakfast. Breakfast my treat! TR

OK, next time we can coerce Skip back to the North, I will make him grits for breakfast. They are common at my house because my Mom grew up near where Skip was raised in Georgia. Granted, I have to almost smuggle them into Illinois.
Don't let him fool you, he had his chance to order biscuits and gravy if he was really homesick for the South. I think all the shivering had affected his decision making.

Yeah, Vegemite might work. It's got to taste better then the wikipedia description sounds.

Actually most people put butter, salt and pepper on them, but a touch of "red eye"* gravy hits the spot. My wife like her's with mushrooms and jalapeños???

Alan you are not too far off, if you threw some onions in creamed corn and fried it up it would be like grits. Also tastes like fried cream of wheat. Had it once, that was enough. Prolly the reason the Brits never stomped right into the south in 1812 8)
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

You people are nuts! I was born in New York, raised in Texas and both places we ate grits with breakfast. Can't think of one thing about them that would make someone NOT like them other than folks that might not like the consistency of oatmeal.

Like shawn - butter on top, spoonful of sugar and chomp away. And when I wasn't misbehavin' I could put brown sugar on them. Even a little bit of milk.

Did I mention that I eat everything and am a bottomless pit? That helps. (No comments from phRed necessary)
