Sound deadening and Insulation tip.

Figured I could share a tip with you guys that want to dynamat your vehicle.

Go to a Lowes and pick up a few rolls of a product called Peel n' Seal. Same stuff as basic dynamat for 1/2 the price. Double it up on your firewall and floorboards even use 3 layers if you really want and use a single layer on the roof/doors/back of cab. Then if you want to really go over kill, after you lay it, lay down some jute padding on the floor under the carpet or rubber mat. IF you dont have a lowes around, Go to home depot and get some heat duct insulation. Triple up on this, as it is not as thick and does not use a asphalt or butyl backing but more along the lines of a high density foam.

On all the seams use alumn. tape and all will be good. I've used this stuff a few times with great results.

Kind of random, but I'm redoing the interior on my 64 so it popped into mind to post this.

P.S. with the peel n seal, your floors and all dont have to be TOTALLY clean, jsut get em as good as you can. Don't have to be anal about it. Stuff sticks great and I have never had a problem with it releasing or lifting.

The last time I was at Lowes I was wondering if they would have something that could be used. I missed the Peel & Seal when I was looking around there. I'll go back and ask for it.

The peel and seal is usually in the roofing supply area.

We have a product here called ice and water shield - sounds very much the same

50' by 3' roll is about $60. as compared to $50 for a 1" x 4" piece of Dynomat

After reading through that I still don't think I would be afraid to use the Peel & Seal in my truck. Except on the inside of the roof that is. Duplicolor also now makes it's spray in bedliner available in aerosol cans, price isn't too bad either. Seems it would be perfect for the inside of our truck roofs, step wells in straight axle trucks and other smaller areas.

I've seen that site before. basically the guy is thinking via website. no personal use on using anything but a car audio specific deadener. To each his own, but I've used the spray on stuff, roll on stuff, stick on stuff. All three did the same job and just as well as the other, but some ways are more cost effective. If you dont have a big budget and you dont wanna spend the money on either dynamat, lizardskin, brown bread, or any of the other big names well then peal n seal or something similiar is a jsut as good but for less $$$$ and in the end I think thats really the deciding factor for 99% of us.

PS. Greg, Dont be afraid of the headliner. I've used it in several vehicles now and now problem. First car I used it in was my 79 z28. Full frame off resto. Car was show quality. Had it for 5 years a no problem. After that I used it in my 71 Z28. Car was mild when I first built it. but after a while got tired of it. Ended up wanting a 12 point cage in it to stiffen it up cuz of torque twitsting the body (blown 396). I had already laid down the peal and seal previously. I fought for days to get the sections out that I needed. Stuff sticks great. Finally ended up using a wire wheel on a grinder to get it off the pans and that was after about 2 days of scraping and cussing.

I looked into this product a lot before I tried it, and I couldn't be happier with it now that I did the floor of my 1960 Rambler with it. Even a single layer with Jute isulation over it made a huge difference to road noise.

I live in Las Vegan as we have a lot of HOT days, there is no asphalt smell, or oozing of the tar , which I had read might be a concern.

For 13 Bucks a roll! (6" by 30') The stuff really is great.

Do you guys think it would work ok on the inside of door skins? The doors on my dentside "clang" when I shut them...a lot of that is because it needs new weatherstripping.
I've been thinking of sticking some inside there to make it sound more like a "thud", but wasn't sure if it would loosen when it's washed, or rains, or during condensation in the winter.

The only issue I've had is if you let the stuff hang around before installing it, it seems to give up a bit of it's stick. And like any sticky tape etc, if you don't attach it to something clean it dosn't last. I applied mine over a fresh coat of POR-15, and havn't had any trouble at all with it. it hasb;t tried to come loose, even at the seams around the heel pad under the pedals. The metal tape I used was a diffeent story, it don't stic to anything well.

I havn't used it myself I am planing on doing the inside of my Torino with it but that project still on hold until I get my pickup running again. (Fraken Carbs!!!) Just another option to look at.

I was alwasy told paper bags and burlap sacks make good insuklation if you use the 3m spray adhesive to spray then stick the burlap sacks to it, then gove it with paper bags for the professional look..

PFM. That stuff works great, I have a couple buddies that run a business out here doing nothing but all out audio installs, they use it and have had good luck with it but still the price is there. HOWEVER it is cheaper than dynamat by far

ANother product to look at is called Brown Bread.

As for the paper bags and all that... Ill pass... doesnt sound right to me. Plus what happens if it gets wet (snow, rain, or mud?) Then where are you left? with a mushy mess and after a few days a mildew/moldy mushy mess.

FYI - Brown Bead was replaced with b-quiet/Ultimate.... The discontinued brown bead a while back.

I agree with you on the paper bags and stuff.. I bet the rats would love all that paper to chew on.
