I finally have a design website

Post by Phil »

I know, yawn but it was kinda fun...

I really bit off more than i could chew in the time frame I had to make this.
Maybe my plans were a bit too big but here is the photoshop comp of the front page.
Its super rough but I plan(ned) to add quite a bit of content.
Too bad the CSS learning curve tried to f'ing kill me.

Obviously the copy is real raw and the nav is incomplete.
Also I think the get the hit isn't a common phrase for johnQpublic
so there would be many more racing references, etc.

Anyway-this was too grueling so I dropped back and punted.
My interview for a webmaster job is wednesday so I figured I should have something online
I used some prepared jpgs of my portfolio/resume and added navigation.
Its kludgy but WTF

I can name about 100 things wrong with it, scrolling, load time, etc.
thoughts?

Someday I'll get another slick :(

looks good and yes that load time is a little high..

One suggestion instead of using Homewtext.jpg as your background (I think this is taking your load time up esp with it being 200k or so) break it out into tables. Then break the background up into text and images. Text loads the fastest. Just my $.02...

I tried building that black page all in CSS/Div tags but my kung fu is too weak. I ended up dropping in those jpg 8.5x11s from my email portfolio.
As it is I need to update those pages too. Im just happy you don't have to scroll to navigate. Lots of bad, some good. Better than saying "I wanna be your webmaster but I have no site" not much better but a little better.

The "get the hit" site will be a billion times better.
I plan to market to shops and race teams etc for web pages.
I also will sell tshirts and maybe torino parts through there.
Long way to go but print design is a dying market.
I like the Wild Wild Web for being artistic. Too bad dreamweaver is so freakin hard to understand

Thanks!

Had the interview today.
Man I am so inexperienced. I guess if they hire someone based on enthusiasm I'm in. Guess we'll see. My current boss isn't even speaking to me right now she's so pissed :? . (its an internal position)

Oh well. I guess I'd be even more pissed at myself had I not applied.
I have no freaking clue how I did.
I decided to be myself VS "joe interview".

At one point the woman hiring asked me "how I deal with strong willed people".
without skipping a beat I said "I ask em for a job"

Stupid brain.
Someday I'll get another slick :(

I was going to say build it with in design and transfer it to Dreamweaver but I guess thats out of the question. Dreamweaver has a way to make the file sizes smaller so they load faster. If your on dial up you know what sites are done with dreamweaver cause they are the ones that open fast.
