Anybody been hunting?

Post by 66fordtrucknut »

Anybody been hunting, our firearm season ends this weekend, then our late season muzzleloader starts. I've had a decent year 2 whitetails, 2 Sika deer. bought a new rifle (.270) over the summer and broke it last weekend on a spike Sika, they're a spike for about 3 yrs. and typically grow to a 6 pt. 4-6 yrs. a buddy of mine got a 7 pt. last week and will prob. score in the top 5 of all time in the state.

Nice job Charlie.

I took the year off from hunting.

Sounds like a venison Bar-B-Q

Nice Job Charlie!!! I wish we still had a decent deer population. When I started hunting it was not odd to see 30 or 40 deer in a day but now a hunter is lucky to see 3 or 4. The only thing that has improved is what buck we do have there is a few more larger racks. The "3-point rule" PA started a while back has helped. Send up some of those Sika deer, I bet they would make good speedies.

I have not had a chance to take a shot but our group has done OK. Out of nine of us we have got 4 buck, 1 doe, and 1 nice coyote. Saturday is our last day, hopefully I'll have some luck. If not no problem I will still have my tag for flintlock season after christmas.

As a member of the insurance community, I encourage you to kill them all. 8) Population should be up this year compared to last, as the number of them walking in front of cars increased dramatically over the previous year. That's how I gauge the population around me.

I do my part, as I am primarily a meat hunter and don't really have a set of standards. I'd much rather shoot a doe ....but .....we just have a over population. prob. is everybody is a trophy hunter and doesn't want to shoot does. I am however a bit more selective with the sika deer, bag limit 2 (1 buck, 1 doe) I do wait for a mature one there.

Yeah, I'm not feeling the love from Charlie either. Selfish are the people who do not help feed their friends.

I missed a doe last night, I was having scope issues which are now taken care of , so I was using open sights and it was almost dark, would've been nice to have the light gathering capabilities. I would've like to have gotten a shot at the buck I'd seen earlier, real nice but would've been just as happy with that big doe. Oh well, I have all week.

Chad and I each got one during rifle season. Chad and his son Colton are heading back out after Christmas for the flint lock season. I hope they get at least one more. If they do I'll let you all know.
