Opinions on Engine Paints
Do I need to go to the expense of POR15 or will the Duplicolor Engine Paints work just as well to paint my engine and transmission. Or does anyone have another recommendation?
If you understand what you’re doing, you’re not learning anything.

If real crusty use kerosene
clean with cheap brake clean
wire wheel with a die grinder
clean with laquer thinner
I use Duplicolor hi temp paints from autozone.
I figure as often as I blow them up I'll just repaint yearly while its out.
I do touch ups with it in the car/truck once in spring

I used these two products to clean my donor engine and trans.
This is what they looked like when I pulled them

After cleaning with the Engine Brite, rinsing down with water,
then spraying it a couple of times with spray brake cleaner,
I gave 'em a couple of light coats and a final medium coat of
Old Ford Blue.
I let the engine sit about a month before running it,
but after 2 years, no fading, peeling, or cracking of the paint.
In fact, I can spray it with brake cleaner even today and any
dirt or grime comes right off.
