Front and rear window install question

Post by cosmo »

I found some pretty good window install instructions by searching the forums here, but Its not clear to me if I should install sealant/glue during the install. If so how do you keep it off the rope as you pull it out of the rubber gasket? I have a custom cab with the chrome trim in the gasket.
thanks for the help!

Rubber seals can always be sealed after installation if they leak. A lubricant like dish soap helps with the install but does little to seal except help the rubber to seat more easily.
If you have a leak, a decent caulking can be used that comes in a plastic tipped tube that you cut at an angle and insert between the rubber and body or rubber and glass. Do NOT use silicone, most silicones have an acid or at least an acetone base and will promote rust.

Do not use sealant when installing the window. Lube the rubber with a mix of dish soap and water. Heavy on the soap.
Once the glass is in and seated properly, water test the glass areas.
If a leak is found, there is a tube of sealant for this purpose that is black and will never harden. (Check your local glass shop). Only apply it where needed in a sparing manner.
