Removing front clip on a 62

Post by lucky13 »

ok just like it says, i'm gonna be mocking up an engine and trans in my 62 F100. Is there any special tips, or anything that i need to know? I'm gonna be unbolting the core support, and the fenders from the cowl, and remove the entire front clip. Anything else? Will i need to remove the front bumper? Thanks for the help

If you still have the stone guard between the bumper and grill, you will need to remove the bumper.
All you need to unbolt is the two core support bolts, two lower fender bolts near the bottom of the door, two inside the cab, the fender straps, and the two bolts in the brackets mounted to the cowl. Do not remove the brackets as this will allow easy realignment.
The hood can stay if still on, but easier to insert and remove engine if you remove it.

Hey is that tubular crossmember a new addition? Is it part of the mounts?

My 62 has the crossmember completely taken out. The PO made some angled wedges and mounted the 429 to that. I want to add an Xmember and that may be the ticket!
Someday I'll get another slick :(

Sorry to jump in...but where did you buy it (crossmember) Yogo? Or did you make it?

i got almost the same crossmember as yogo, i picked mine up from CPP and am really happy with the looks of it so far. Hey yogo, When you put the crossmember in, did you lay the pads on the bottom of the framerails? I didn't know if it should be shimmed and then drilled, or just resting in the framerails.

http://www.classicperform.com/4856fordt ... sionMounts
It mnts just behind where brake lines are bolted thru frame, slide flanges on cross member then slide it between frame rails at an angle"leave it all lose for now, lower engine down to cross member and bolt up motor mnts, then let the engine dwn and work it till you get it where you want, when you have it right, mark holes in flanges, remove engine, drill and bolt in,Then I welded the flanges to tubu.Whew Its really pretty simple.Link at top is to site.be sure and keep centered and the right angle which will be 3-5 degrees
