CV question and bolt patterns

i am confused as to how low a cv will get you. there are some pics of a cv done and it doesn't look that low. no one has stated where the bumper sits to the ground. i just want to drop a few inches and my truck is sagging as is so i can't tell what 6 inches is. does this setup push the wheels out any farther or less? i plan to use 17 or 18 inch rims and use this truck for everyday driving. it has to be practical as a truck too. i like the fact of the rack-n-pinion and all in one piece and looks easy enough to put on the truck. here is a link to some pics that i would like my truck to be at in height and possbly a touch lower depending when it is together and how it looks. the member is GDG and their link is: http://fordtruk.com/forums/album_showpa ... 818#TopPic

what are some rear end suggestions to keep the bolt pattern the same. i have run across a 69 lincoln that a buddy wants the engine and trans. can this rear end work? does anyone know off the top of their head on what cars have a similiar width. i haven't looked to see if it is a 9 3/4 or something stupid but it is a posi as the books has stated. i'm sure i can use the window motors and tilt on here too.

any suggestions would be really great. jeremy

If you want a 5 on 4.5 pattern all around, your options are as follows:

1- Use the original 28-spline 9-inch truck rear (assuming your truck came with one and not a Dana) with passenger car axle shafts. There are certain models of Ford and Merc passenger cars that had one axle shaft that was the same length as the truck ones. I can't remember the details off the top of my head, but it has been discussed here before. I believe it included late-70's Thunderbirds, Cougars, and LTD's.

2- Redrill you truck axle flanges to the 5 on 4.5 pattern.

3- Find a complete passenger car rear axle of appropriate width. There were several variations of lengths and spline counts produced, so saying exactly what will fit is tricky.

4- Find some long 31-spline truck axles, the kind that don't neck down inboard of the bearing, and have them shortened and resplined to fit your truck housing. Combine this with a 31-spline centre section of your preferred ratio.

5- Custom axles.

Here's some info that may help, if you haven't seen it already: http://www.kevinstang.com/Ninecase.htm

Wheel base (inches) 114.6,
front track (inches): 63.4,
rear track (inches): 65.6
and curb to curb turning circle (feet): 40

This is a 2004 spec.

Using a rear fromm a vic is really pushing it.

And with such a negetaive offset required for wheel choice i would triple check the wheel load rating before any swaps. Pretty sure Cobra and CV wheels are not load rated for trucks....So forget the truck as a truck use....

Jeremy I think you are in luck as GDG HAS a Crown vic on his truck. The one you see on those pics.

i am curious of what car axles would fit that rear to get the smaller pattern. i will measure that lincoln rear to see what it is. there is a mid 70's ranchero in the yard that i can check also.

i would use this truck mainly for light use anyways. i might make a rollpan for the rear and set a hitch behind the plate so when i need to pull something then flip a spring loaded plate like my amx.
