Pat: The stuff pasted in below was copied off the Weather Canada webpage, maybe it will make you feel better about your current conditions:)

Extreme Cold Warning

Alerts for: City of Edmonton - St. Albert - Sherwood Park
Warnings
6:27 AM MST Sunday 07 February 2021
Extreme Cold Warning in effect for:

City of Edmonton - St. Albert - Sherwood Park
Extremely cold wind chill values between minus 40 and minus 55 continue.

This prolonged cold snap is expected to persist through the coming week for many areas of Alberta. There will be some moderation in temperature at times, typically during daylight hours.

Watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

If it's too cold for you to stay outside, it's too cold for your pet to stay outside.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ABstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #ABStorm.

Pat: Taking it to another level, there is a local group that does a 10.5 day (252 hours) outdoor hockey game, all to raise funds for Cancer. And this year, their 10 day run has fallen during the coldest stretch (so far) this winter.........

http://www.worldslongestgame.ca

livestream on YT
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiiziC ... HFg/videos

The only thing more extreme I can think of is a 24 hour motorcycle/ATV ice race. The NUMB BUM 24 hour race started back in the early eighties on a small lake (Sloo) just outside my old stomping grounds (Grande Prairie, AB), and was originally started by the some people from the Motorcycle Mechanic Program @ Fairview College.
Some years later, it was moved to a lake out west of Edmonton. At the riders meeting, all riders would receive a hardcopy of a Chart showing the corrected temp based on your MPH, and it was Shocking (or should I say chilling??:)......I know of several people who ended up with bandaged hands from frostbite. It would run from Noon Sat to Noon Sunday, and there were "Classes" for various CC ranges, etc, but also an overall, and it was seldom the biggest CC bikes that took the overall. A couple friends ran a Yamaha TT250 one year, and despite kicking a rod several hours before the finish, still placed somewhere in the top five. They ran that poor little bike wide open, and several times during the night, when a rider came in to turn the bike over to the next rider, they discovered the oil level was below the sight glass on the case  ...and that's likely what ultimately led to it's demise.....

The cold spell has been broken!! Today is the first day since Jan 12/2021 that the temp here has been above freezing......currently, it's 4 deg C, or 39 deg F. But this will not last more than a few days, and there will be more low temps and more snow before it all ends.........I've joked over the years that with all the Government cutbacks, the politician that runs on a platform of cutting back to three seasons (Spring, Summer, Fall), is a shoe-in to get voted in:):)

as the original title says
WIND BLOWING IN KANSAS
it is true again ....
4th day in a row of unrelentless wind howling
supposed to have at least a couple more days of it
i can be in my shop & it really doesnt bother me
but i need to burn 160 acres of grassland
and can't burn when wind is over 10 mph
its been over 25 mph lately .....
also i need to "top dress" fertilize the young wheat
this means i spray a liquid nitrogen fertilizer on it ....
yep.... cant do that when its this windy either
....
well i can't change the weather.... but i can gripe about it :boohoo:

good golly
50 mph wind gust all day long !
i was inside the shop with the doors closed, so it wasnt too bad
then got 2 calls after lunch reporting water leaks
(i run a rural water district system )
went to flag them & call DIG SAFE
on the way home i saw water in the ditch in another spot...
yep ... 3rd leak !

that super cold weather we got a month ago , probably plays a part in it
the ground gets super cold , then when it warms up , it pulls on the joints

oh well.... at least i dont get bored around here

Muddy wet, might be an understatement.

I was in Salina last Tuesday and it looked more like the everglades in a lot of wheat fields.
Wanted to drop by but it wasn't in the schedule the boss had me on.

Hot son of a gun yesterday
Around 105* with a hard south wind
Am at the end of getting the soybeans planted
Might finish today
The neighbors started cutting wheat
We will probably start Monday….
Probably could start Sunday… but hate starting a job on that day
Rain isn’t in the forecast … but it’s starting to get dry
Started watering the grass & flowers around the house to keep it green
The water from our well taste terrible & turns things white
But it’s better than nothing
The rural water district started in 1967
Before that , drinking water had to be brought in from nearby city

Got 3 days of wheat cutting in
But then we got a much needed rain
Couldn’t cut wheat, so we planted some soybeans
In afield that we had already cut the wheat off…
That’s my son Jim in the tractor pulling a “turbo till” implement…
It can go thru a lot of material & break the soil up , for a seed bed
I’m pulling my conventional drill …
Absolutely can’t see where I have been whatsoever
But the GPS guidance system keeps the rows straight & parallel

Seems like high temps in a LOT of places ATM, including here in EDMONTON, have a look @ the Weather Canada Forecast for the next week, we are, in all likelihood, going to surpass the all time temp for Edmonton (37 deg C, or 98.6 deg F) some time this coming week. The forecast for Wed is 41 deg C (105.8 deg F), which, if it gets that hot will surpass the old record high by 7.2 deg F !

**You can switch it from Deg C to Deg F by clicking on the F or C in top LH box where it's showing the current temp

Warnings
4:23 AM MDT Sunday 27 June 2021
Heat Warning in effect for:

City of Edmonton - St. Albert - Sherwood Park
A prolonged, dangerous, and historic heat wave will persist through this week. Afternoon high temperatures will climb to the mid 30's today, and will peak near 40 degrees Celsius in some regions by midweek. The heat wave will continue into early next week.

Little to no reprieve from the heat is expected, as overnight lows will remain between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius.

The duration and magnitude of this heat event will lead to increased risk of heat related illness.

Residents of and visitors to the warned regions are advised to take the following precautions to protect themselves, their families and their neighbours:

- Consider rescheduling outdoor activities to cooler hours of the day.
- Take frequent breaks from the heat, spending time in cooled indoor spaces where possible.
- Drink plenty of water and other non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated beverages to stay hydrated.
- Check for your children or pets before you exit your vehicle. Do not leave any person or pet inside a closed vehicle, for any length of time.

Monitor for symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion, such as high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting, and unconsciousness.

Pay particular attention to individuals that can experience earlier or more severe effects from heat including infants, children, seniors, and individuals with pre-existing lung, heart, kidney, nervous system, mental health or diabetic conditions, outdoor workers, as well as those who are socially isolated.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

We have had several records broken this year…
Some highs.. some lows
And a record dry June so far (first rain a couple days ago)
Luckily had enough ground moisture to sprout all the beans planted
I hope we have a decent amount of rain the next couple months worship.gif

The soybeans we planted all came up good
But the weather has been dry ever since
The plants look good … but very thirsty !
I noticed a lot of large sized cracks in the ground
But when I woke up this morning…
I had a pleasant surprise
Over 2” inches of rain fell during the night :D
This will give em a darn nice boost !!
