Slick 60's

I got a Longbed... and I was wondering.. about the frame what does it take to shorten it to accept a shortbed. My truck is a 1966 Ford F-100 Longbed.

you would have to cut the frame with a z style cut. go to www.trucks.com, the tv show, and look at what they are doing to a chevy like that. they are even using the long bed and shortening it too.

Tcoupe, as far as I know it's not all that uncommon as long as you can weld structural type weld beads. I saw that same episode of trucks. They did a good job. As good a place to start as any.

Foodstick's, which looked similar, is now owned by Kid's brother and WILL be at SS3 just like he was at the last 2

I saw my Grandfather do this for a 70 Chevy years ago. He cut the frame at the front on one side and the rear on the other. Welded them together and then welded plate steel on the inside and outside about 4 to 6 inches to either side of the cuts. I also believe that he put large bolts through the plates and the frame on either end of the plate.

I do know that the truck ran the roads back home for many years and I never saw it "listing to port".

appreciate it yall I was mainly wondering if I'd have to take it out right behind the cab or If I could just hack off the back........ Guess I gots to weld to do it. not a big deal....... My long bed got hit by an 18 wheeler recently and All I can seem to find is SWB trucks in the junk yards any way Thanks again

Kyle. That's a switch for sure, usually the shortbeds are the hard-to-find-in a junkyard model.
might be easier to pick up a whole frame for one too, and just swap the good stuff off your truck onto it, if it was hit that bad. The frame might be pushed out of alignment on yours.

On my crew cab I cut the back of the frame off and slid the box forwrd, but I was 'C' notching the frame where the diff ended up anyways. I then drilled out the rivets holding the leaf mounts on and moved em forward too.
I've shortened a few trucks by taking a piece of the frame out behind the cab, I did my cut on a 45 degree angle, fish plated and boxed it in.
