since the cab mounts are totally gone on my 62 and i have to replace them , i was wondering if 64 and later mounts might fit it. i realize the earlier ones are available, but i'm also wondering if the later ones are a superior design ( less prone to rust ). has anyone ever done this?

i think the earlier (61-64) style are better. just my opinion though.

The newer style are available from Dennis Carpenter. Not sure what makes you think they are LESS prone to rust tho..

i actually don"t think they are more prone to rust, i was just wondering. ford did change them for a reason though ,( just a thought). i'm actually in the process of building my own mounts. looking at the originals they don't look that involved. besides what have i got to lose .

I like the mounts on the '66 1-ton - they are tough and drain well. Not so for the 1/2 tons for the same year. My driver's side front mount on my 1/2 ton long bed is toast. I took pictures on Saturday morning but left them at home. I'll post them later.
These are crappy design IMO - looks like a rounded chairleg with holes, made out of sheet metal. Ford could have done better than they did. It collects water and mud like a cup. The whole bottom section on mine is rusted away, and that's before I get into it with a wire wheel - hard telling how much has to be cut away to get to clean stuff.
I'm not a welder, so it's going to a local shop. We're going to put in heavier flat steel plate - both front mounts - and weld it up to the flange above the mount and back to the other flange where the cab floor curves up. It will be open on the sides so I can get a wrench on the mount pad bolt.
Yeah, I'm one of those "PO's" you guys love to hate, but I don't care what this looks like, it needs to be STRONG!

Okay, so I guess I'm a little cornfused. there are "old" style front cab mounts for 61-64 Slicks and there is a "new" style for 61-64 Slicks?

Oh, okay. I know that the original cab mounts (61-64) went from cab side to tranny tunnel, but the replacement ones I've seen are about half as long. In fact, I've got one of the shorter ones that I won on E-bay, (although I believe it was home made).
