Slick 60's

i seem to get an awfull lot of heat in my slick even with the heat off. it feels as if my heater is cranked on. my engine doesnt overheat, but the heater core does have a small leak. i dont think that has any thing to do with the heat though it so small i rarely see water just a faint smell of antifreeze sometimes, the fluid level in my radiator only drops about an inch evry 3 months. has always been like that scince i have had the truck. going into my second summer with my slick. the first summer was miserable and its starting to warm up here and would like to get this fixed. when i first got the truck someone pointed out the valve in my engine compartment goin to the heater and said my heat can be controlled there. i just figured it may be something that should be left alone. my temp gauge dont work so i probally wouldnt know untill it was to late if my slick overheated. can anyone tell me if i can stop the heat im getting there, and if that valve is opened or shut will it raise my engine temp any

Close the valve it will stop the heat from coming into the cab. Closing it will have no effect on engine cooling as long as every thing else is in proper working order.

Those shut off valves were used to cut off coolant flow to the heater corefor the summer. Thats your problem.

At your next flush you might want to take it off and inspect it. My freinds 66 was coroded away so fluid was still going by.

Also keep in mind that these trucks are just Damn hot in the summer.

closed the valve, problem solved. now i can enjoy the ride a little more. not as much road rage now that i ain't frying my marbels while being stuck behind a bunch of dam tourists or even worse being stuck behind a Washington driver
