Hey Skip, Sounds good to me. I used the flexable hose off of a old wet dry shop vac. My a/c system was on a 51 chevy and I only had 2 vents.I used thin sheet metal and short pieces of muffler pipe on my box .It was a very simple system ,It blew cold and was either off or on with no flaps.

I am planning on using a rear air unit out of a conversion van also. Mine is A/C only. I want to just use it like a regular old underdash air. It has a front on it. It is plastic, and has 3 round outlets, where the ducting in the van connected to the unit. I am prolly gonna get a local sheetmetal shop to build me a front for it that I can pop some vents into.

Any progress on yours yet?

Guys.
I have not forgotten this thread.
I'm in the process of re-thinking and planning the entire layout while I re-wire the truck this time.
Also, I think I'm going to modify the dash quite a bit and everything needs to fit together this time, not just throw parts at it like I did before.
I have started cutting and pasting foam and some balsa wood structure (cheap, light, and easy to cut and work with) to lay up the ducting with.
When the work gets started in earnest, I'll be sure to take pictures.
Thanks for the bump.

I'm not arguing with you. I'm just explaining why I'm right.
Pardon me. Does your deaug bite?

Uncle, It got the better of me and I went to the wreckers this arvo and looked at some Toyota Tarago rear heat cool units but they seemed too big or poorly orientated for the job! so I just hunted around the place for awhile taking in all the treasures, then I saw this heater core box on the back of a Courier table top already removed from it`s resting place, 8) after a quick Macular Scopic inspection  I brought it home for a test fit, will post a pic of it . Skip your ducting system will be required!

Ditto ... that really looks like a neat idea. Although, it's not needed as much in Michigan, we still get quite a few hot days.

Skip you are building a convergent duct to increase velocity and decrease pressure. Correct?

I know it was last year I said I`d post these pic`s, but hey!, it was only yesterday!

first one shows the large opening in the front for air to come out at body level,

same just different angle

depth shouldn`t be a problem

side showing the flap controls

top out let that goes to demister

I couldn`t find the cooling coil, it just sits in the air inlet passage as always
cost 50 bucks if it will work I can take it back and swap it for a good one from the wreckers

yeah , the large car ac/heaters are just too big to fit!, anyway we only have small cabs to heat and cool!, even less when I`m sitting in one!

Alan, I have seen some radio holes cut in dashes that that front "body level" opening should fit...  lets keep this thread alive... AC is an ultimate goal... here is what I am going to use....
original heat with under dash AC from of all places.............................................................................................................................................................................................................................

fortunately for me, I am into FREE and CHEAP.... this was donated to me from a friend with an old Impala he was going to use it in but decided not to..... It seems like the older I get, the more contacts I have for "STUFF"!!!! I kept all the AC parts off of both Mavericks I parted so I should have all the parts except brackets.... and I want new hoses..... this will probably be the last thing to do unless money is short and the AC parts are here.... something to tinker with in those times of "NO money"...

Anthony, this is a good subject, as most of us will want air at some stage, that is a fairly compact unit you have! and should do the job. I don`t think I`d cut my dash to put the air out lets in, by memory this unit has air vents built into the control panel, which should sit nicely under the dash!, or part of a centre console, I wonder where Skip is up to with this!
