PS pump for Bendix steering gear
PS pump for Bendix steering gear
can I use the saginaw style PS pump with the Bendix steering gear? I picked up a whole PS setup from a mid 70's f100 and I really don't like the idea of shortening the steering column. I do have a bendix gear also.

Maybe he wants to tip toe through traffic with no sense of road feel
or accurate response to any steering attempts at all, whadda ya think ?

Bring your project into the 21st century. Use a Saginaw, variable PSI, slipper type, pump.
All theDifferences are 50 years apart. Deal with Steering Column issue. You will not attain
your goal if you revert to mid 60's technology believe me/us.
Why do you suspect we know & tell you this critical fact. . . . .?
We know it's tuff, but truth be known, It's well worth doing the upgrade right if you do anything at all.
Besides, who wants to wander down the roads with a lack of steering precision unseen
since the venerable 54 Buick, or 55 Chrysler products?

I have not driven a Bendix steared truck but I can certainly attest that a 70's era Saginaw setup feels quite modern.
I upgraded to a Saginaw PS and C4 automatic tranny at the same time, so its a little difficult to say for sure, but my feeling is that the PS upgrade made it feel more "driveable" than anything else I have done....

1965 F-100 240 Autolite 1101, Disk brake dual master upgraded, swapped over to C4 and powersteering. Bought by my Dad new in March 65'
Planned/considered upgrades:
Perhaps power brakes, 300 I6 motor and JUST maybe, AC!

yeah I'm still here. . . .
I'd agree modern slipper style steering is great improvement. I feel disc brakes are another 1 .
Eespecially so if the vehicle is driven in today's traffic. People don't drive fairly. Many are either
arrogant or don't pay attention. Either way great steering & great brakes give competent drivers
who are aware and care, a clearly definite edge when unexpected occurs.
