Keep me away from shiny things
Lately I don't know what it is, but if there is anything shiny on my 66 I am or have scratched or hit it. My garage while it is technically a 2 car, barley fits my 66 and me, so it is very easy for me to turn around and "BAM" hit the truck if I am not watching what I am doing. Tonight I jacked the front of the truck up so I could get under it to look at my failing throw out bearing. When I was all done, I let the front of the truck down, and it rolled back a inch or two as it was coming down it rolled back, it hit my welding cart and scratched up the dumper really bad. I know this is my own fault, cause I should have put something behind the rear tires so it wouldn't roll... This is the latest in what has been a series of my not thinking and causing damage... I think my next truck will need to be a ratrod cause at the pace I am going I don't know if I can afford to be around my own truck.

Scratches
Yep, I scratched the tailgate on my new to me 66 F100 the same day I bought it. Makes me feel better, it's a truck dangit!UpOnBlocks wrote:A real truck has scratches and dents. That's the difference between it and cars.

I scratch the hell out of Aggie on a regular basis, loading, hauling and bashing around. I dont care about the paint too much, as it's just Flat Black Rusto that didnt look too good to start with. I try not to wreck her bodywork, but she's solid enough I dont have to worry much.
I can put a ratcheting tie strap on the opening edge of the rear fenders and crank it down hard, and drive around with something heavy tied in with it with little or no fear of hurting the fenders. They're made of thick real steel, and are of such a shape that deformation is unlikely.
But when I go and scrape up a hubcap I cant see straight!!! At least I can get brand new ones for $100 for the set. They're not priceless and irreplaceable....

Yeah - they are 'TRUCKS'
I work with mine all the time, and they show it. Can't let the body dings bother me. Slicks are simple enough for even me to fix, so that's what I use.
Some day, some kid will pry these loose from me (and prolly sink 3-4 times what they are worth to restore) when I get too old to get out and under everytime something breaks. For now I'll just keep these clean, straight and reasonably stock.

scratches on slicks
A pick up you can't haul on is basically a bad handling two seater. I'm not saying chunk fire wood in it . I like making it sqat every once in a while. Let it earn its keep. The old fashion reverse rake.

while i use my trucks as trucks and you cant avoid some dings and scratches i do try not to beat them up too badly. things like throwing wood into the bed and hitting the side rails is irritating.
i do however like a clean interior, and do my best to keep it that way.
the towtruck takes the most abuse especially during plowing. have not badly damaged anything on it yet as i am more careful than i was with the bump i previously plowed with. not a straight body panel on it anywhere, looks like it was in bumper car land.

To me that's part of the fun of having them.I agree with you iceman .I keep the interior clean and the outer body scratch and dent free as possible , but the inside of the bed has scatches. My truck does'nt have a good paint job anyway,but someone keyed it at work. As far as i know i do'nt have any enemies ,must have been a random act of retardation. BUT it made me think a little bit once I paint it am i going to stop driving it to work? Makes me not want to paint it at all. Or maybe a colored primer and just fix them as they occur. MAYBE JUST DRIVE IT WHAT TO HECK ITS A TRUCK!!!

Yeah I guess I just need to accept that dings and scratches are just going to happen. I just had the truck painted less then a year ago, so I was kinda hoping to keep it in better shape, but I am kinda like a bull in a chain shop...
Dean -- Well I am not AS big as the truck itself, but I am a pretty big boy. My garage is hard to work in cause even if I didn't have anything in here besides two cars, it would be a tight fit. I guess I could do a few more sit-ups and see if that helps, nahhh I just need to build a bigger shop!!

I've heard "it's just a truck" so many times that I want to puek!
I guess it's a curse that I want to protect what I own and I respect the logic of others in the fact that yes these are trucks and they should be used as trucks, but that's why I owe .. A Truck!... so I can pay my respect to my other truck the 66 after all her years of being a work truck that I can now give her the respect she earned by not abusing here. got one of those two car garages that you have to squeeze around things too, so for the last 2 weeks I've been pouring slabs and extending the back of the garage just so I can give me and her some more room, I'm sure it won't be enough
