Slickmainer 1961 unibody

Thought I would start a thread about my unibody. As this is my second slick in the herd I plan on learning on this one as much as I can.

Details:
292 v8 with 2bbl 2100 carb
4sp on the floor (not original)- reverse is up and to the right by third gear, which I think is an early T18.
Front brakes have been swapped to 8 lugs
Rear end is an Eaton HO52 with leafs and 8 lugs (these came as 4.57 as standard with 3.54, 4.56, 4.57, or 4.10 as options) Also came as a no-spin option


Plans:
Get running!!!
Replace Battery (Done)
Replace starter (Done)
Replace Plugs, Wires, Cap, Rotor, Points (Done)
Replace ignition with pertronix 1281 and coil 40011
Replace ignition switch (Done)
Rewire as needed
Replace gauge lights/ gauges and regulator as needed

metal work
Replace driver side shock tower (acquired)
Replace Hood
Replace radiator support (acquired) and latch support brackets (acquired)
Replace hood latch (acquired)
Replace passenger inner fender (acquired)
Replace floor pans as needed (after wire wheel sanding)
Patch roof holes near drip rail
Fix tailgate hinges
Fill extra gas filler tube hole drilled in side of bed
Fix or replace inner door parts

Appearance
Sand and fix cracked paint locations on door and fender
Replace Anti-rattle kit and division bar as well as any bad rubber
Remove plastic bedliner and smooth out the rear fender wells (beat up!!!)
Fix broken steering wheel
Install 1968 Mustang seats (acquired) with new sliders (soon) and ranger brackets (soon)
Move parking brake to between seats, maybe use a 70s corvette or 80s mustang handle and mechanics
Maaco pant job
Newish 8 lug wheels

Frame and Suspension
upgrade brakes to dual res out of 68 mustang
sand down frame as best as I can and paint/seal
new bushings all around
new rubber cab to frame mounts

i have a parts bed and can cut you the piece to cover the extra gas hole , just need a measurement of the location.

thanks Brian I have access to 2 unis in the junkyard for that area or I'll just cut up this hood once I get a better one. I was thinking I might just put a rubber plug in there can call it good.

Took the plastic "over the lip" ford bed liner out of the bed filled with about 40 pounds of wet leaves, acorns and mud. I was expecting to see rust holes in the bed at the front...NOT ONE RUST HOLE. all solid at the front of the bed and even on the sides. WOO HOO!!! Bottom of the tailgate where the hinges go is rusted out, so I gotta figure out a away fix that. weld in a tube?

Got lots of work done on the inside last night. 3 dedicated hours. video coming soon. Im so excited about my floors. only a few area and the steps are really good...for new england. haha

I'm not much farther then you Gregg. Sounds like your more of a body man then me. You got a good plan going. Did you replace the selenoid? I can't remember. Looks good. Mines been sitting on my property for 2 years, I've owned it for about 3. I did get the engine running before I tore it apart. I'm confident you'll figure it out soon. If your like me when you do you'll proclaim yourself King for a day. I really like your layout for what needs to get done. Wish you were closer...we'd be a team.

Driver side after a quick scrape of a putty knife/scraper and a hand brush- i'll probably hit this with a wire brush/cup later.




Passenger side-little worse, big hole in what would be the battery area of a larger truck

Any holes in that rust? Or should I say, any metal?

A few spots near the kick panel on the driver side. Passenger side is worse. Looks ugly but I banged on it with a screwdriver looking for soft spots and it was good

did some cleaning up of the cab over the weekend.

I cut into the floor on the driver side above the cab mount and blew out all the crap in there, seemed pretty solid and it was all dry. I took out a rodent condo from the fender/kick panel area, must have been a family since they were in both sides. Needs some new metal on the floor as its rusted out around the bolt holding the cab mount. im guessing a new pan would be better than piecing it together...the area near the trans cover is solid though, hate to cut through good original metal like that.

I'm no expert but I would plan on ordering new cab mounts. Mine looked good from underneath but when I pulled the pans out I was greeted with mucho rusto! No big deal really, set me back about $160 and a week but it will work out.

Just the mounts, the floors were $200.
