Can a Slick be enjoyed?
Can a Slick be enjoyed?
Now that my Slick is just about done, can I just drive it and stop looking for another project to replace it. I only have so much room and money so if I get something else, the Slick would have to go.
How many just drive their Slick and have overcome their wants and needs for something else?

I have been using mine as a daily driver and shop truck for two years and have put about 50,000 miles on it.
If it cain't be fixed with a sledge hammer it must be an electrical problem!

Re: Can a Slick be enjoyed?
Sure it can be enjoyed. But you gotta have something to do and if enjoying your slick leads to idle hands, maybe it is time for another project.

Re: Can a Slick be enjoyed?
Mike, I think the better question is this: Do you want to be content with the (very excellent!) work you have done? Or, put another way, did you fix your Slick up to keep it, or was it a just a great project?
There certainly is nothing wrong with selling your Slick. It is, after all a machine.
Since I have had mine for more than 30 years though, I think I will not ever sell it. (Even though I think hard about it sometimes!)

I dont understand.....are you saying that you have finished all there is to do????? I cant stop making "improvements". When they are all done then I really have to finish the tripower.....probably good for a couple more years. Then I am sure I can come up with things that just have to be done or redone....And mine is a daily driver. Besides there is always room to park another project around the corner on the street

Re: Can a Slick be enjoyed?
I can't really give an informed opinion, since I never seem to get anything to any semblance of acceptable operability. I told anyone who would listen that I was not going to dive into my latest purchase, just so I could be sure to have one drivable slick for the summer. Oh, well
At least it's nice to have a number of projects to choose which one NOT to work on! People don't even bother to ask anymore what I will do when I finally retire.
As to a daily driver, I've got an assortment of 360+ horsepower late models, and a rather heavy foot. Even my uni with it's 223 gets considerably worse fuel economy than the least economical of the late models!
If you enjoy driving yours, and maintaining it, and don't feel an irresistable need for another project, then there's always improvements to make the slick just what you want, unless you are lucky enough to have already achieved that.
If you in fact have, then I envy you!

Re: Can a Slick be enjoyed?
I could get a lot more done to my slick if I could STOP driving it! It was down for over three years doing the Dakota swap, till I got the confidence to JUST DO IT! I drive it every day now. Still trying to get used to the ROCK STAR effect....people staring at me/It and thumbs up and yelling
LOVE your truck in front of Wal-Mart
sometimes its kinda embarrassing. One day a 23 year old guy offered to trade his Soul for it...LOL...I replied now what am I going to do with an extra soul? A quick trip to the store takes two hours because I get ambushed by people of all ages wanting to talk about slicks. "Hey Guy is that a 64?" "My dad had one of those, does it have the 352?" Anything to spark a conversation... What I find so strange is my truck has its fair share of dents and peeling paint , its NOT a slick shiny perfect show truck...guess the patina thing helps out ..LOL Daily driving my slick is lots of fun. It got 14.75 MPG on the way To OKC at 80 MPH with a fully dressed 351W in the back and two transmissions.I got the mileage right to drive it THAT'S WHAT I BUILT IT FOR!!! GUESS if I was told i couldn't drive my slick there would be a lot of kicking and screaming and foul language!!

Re: Can a Slick be enjoyed?
i truly enjoy driving these trucks. i have owned more than i can count since i was in my late teens and i am 42 now. they used to be cheap throw away trucks when i was younger, but now they are more than that to me. i can say without a doubt that i am a slick fan for life.

Re: Can a Slick be enjoyed?
For me when I had only one truck I wasn't happy.. That is because if I was working on the truck I couldn't drive it. So I went and got me a crewcab to work on/re do completly then I could just drive my other truck. Now when the CC is done I will most likly start working on the other truck (maybe or maybe not but I also might finish the torino).
This is the only way I can semi tame my slickidous. Now what will I do with all 3 finished hummm I think I will be to old to care at that point.
Then again people post stuff about a slick bus in Canada and my idous flares up. Then pate swap meet comes along and I have another battle then Slick stock. Ha shut up chirs...

Re: Can a Slick be enjoyed?
I currently own eight slicks. None are full customs and none are concors restorerations. I concider them hotrods and by definition that means they are never finished. I intend to keep four of them sell off the other four in time (if I last that long). I am lucky enough to have a place big enough in the country to keep that many trucks at one time.

Re: Can a Slick be enjoyed?
I have alot of stuff I liked.
One or maybe of this or that,
I've had 11 Slicks.
For now I only have the 64 but would like another for a driver - the 64 I have now will never see snow (which means salt here).
If I have to choose one kind of vehicle only - it will be one of these old trucks.
Preferably a 61-64.
