limited sjip

Post by ras4434 »

my last parts truck (1965 f100) had a limited slip rear end. I have a good rear end in my truck but think I may swap. What would be the advantages>>>>>>>

I am going to say this , I bet a lot that most here will disagree, limited slip or posi IS NO GOOD For street driving by my past experience and this is what was happening, I installed one in my 56, then after being in the ditch 3 times in the rain or wet road, We pinpointed it to the rear, took it back out and truck never went back in the ditch in the rain and when I 'm asked I say if you value/love your truck KEEP IT OUT, it's only good for going straight,,, now we also had dually Ford trucks and those rear ends would shake the truck in parking lots, going off and on ramps feel it pulling and constantly had to add additives to the rears to stop all that, to me it's ego trip just to say whats under the rear end, last one we sold here I had them sign a waiver so I was not responsible for what can happen to there truck

Going down the highway or driving around town you are better off with an open rearend. Save the posi units for a lot of mud/snow driving, pulling loads out of soft places, trail driving, etc.

If you ever venture of the superhighways the limited slip is the way to go. Sure, they are a bit different to drive, but that's why you have a brain.......

If you think a TractionLoc can be a handful, try a fresh Detroit Locker!
One of the members runs a spool on the street. Probably a self-solving problem if in Houston weather!

I run a mini spool in my truck and its never been in the ditch. But then again I don't drive it in the rain. Its all about the driver and what you want to do with your truck.

You can put an open diff in the ditch about as easily. Just be conscious about what you are driving and the conditions in which you are driving and you will be fine.
