My New custom cab cluster and 'stock look tach"

well...I've been waiting a while to do this...and boy am I excited to finish this and get it in, need strip it and paint it argent silver...whats safe on chrome?
the tach is from Toms broncos.com

I love how it turned out..now to track down the vacuum gauge with shift light and shift light sensor hardware..I've thought about having two sensors on a switch..one for economy shifting and on for max rpms..but I;m probably dreaming in color!

if you just strip off the existing white paint the panel will be nice and shiny with no need for silver paint

heres a before and after of one i did







the note about the radius is just explaining the differences in the stampings, it does not affect the speedometer at all.


since the big truck vacuum gauge is actually for the brake system, as far as i know there was no shift light or sensor, and the light just comes on at low vac which if i remember right is below 7 hg.

wow, I had no idea there was a difference in a 61-63 cluster panel vs a 64-66...I had to drag mine out to look...I have a pitted one out of a 64...maybe im blind...I looked for it...but...I couldn't see the difference today anyway...but as far as not needing to paint the cluster panel because its nice and shiny..normally I'm all about chrome..but..well let me say this...I've never had a chrome cluster panel...neither has dad in any slick that he's owned...but I would think that an all chrome cluster would be quite blinding at times...if my lower bezel wasn't argent silver...id probably paint the insert white to match my dash...but I'm all for Ideas here!
as far as the light in the vacuum gauge..well that's depressing in a way..thought that I had read somewhere that it was a shift light..but...Im sure if I come along to the right parts...I can make it a shift light...Then again why did I think a Big truck had a shift light

found this post on instagram the other day...and thought...wait..no f600 tach went to 8 grand! and basically that how it would look in argent silver...

i did the lower panel to match the upper, also a member had a replacement custom cab script decal i bought years ago which turned out very nice. dont remember who it was i got them from unfortunately.

btw they are shiny but i would not say blinding.

Ya I think that is a bronco thing, Because I was looking at toms bromcos.com where I bought the tach and even they're temp gauges had different readings on them so I guess ford just choose to do them differently? but the replacement cc script would be sweet! The paint on my lower trim isn't that bad but at some point when I do the body and paint I want to redo that so that would be a nice item to have. but what company has the best panel rubber seal/trim?... I don't want any part of any rubber that cracks after 4 MONTHS! my drivers winglass seal is cracking already..not bad but around the bends..I've already given up on the glass to diver bar seal...I'm lucky my 62 f600 doner had good seals there..I reused them..not to get off topic..but repop rubber and chrome parts scare me at this point!

I'm considering calling tomsbroncos.com, to see if they would sell me just these 194 light pigtails...they fit the speedometer cluster perfectly, and that sets the gauges bulb technology ahead 12 years or so...

This is what's in my truck now, dad had it powder coated where he worked, they let him send it down the light fixture line after he got the oil and alt gauges from a dump truck some 25 years ago. oddly enough from what he remembers the standard cab panel was in it when he got it..no telling what went on before dad and the previous owner got it.




This is that panel that came out of that 64 that was on its side, that dad bought and pulled what few things were salvageable in his case at the time




as you can see...I may have stole the needle off this one for the 62 cluster above..hope its still accurate..but I have the one in the 64 if all else fails..

Looks good, I put one of those tach's in my chrome argent cluster a couple years ago and am putting the vacuum gauge on the side also as soon as I find another one or the local wrecker finally desdes to sell the one out of the f800 they have.

thanks, ya theres a 63 f800 at a yard about 70 miles from me..loots of nice little odds and ends, im still kicking myself for not checking ut out sooner...it had the tach and vacuum gauge..and somone snagged the whole cluster before I got there...two drive cables..
The only thing that botheres me about the tach is that its slightly smaller than the f800 tach so, it sits right on rhe trim ridge and sticks out..which..who knows maybe one day I'll have that ridge taken out and smoothed on that pitted 64 panel..but in the end most people unless they really looked..wouldnt assume much about that..they may not nessesarilly look at the size difference between the vacuum and bronco tach...

These two would be nice, but they don't offer either for the tach...as for the illuminated overlay I think it's white when it's not lit up, but to use that you have to have a aftermarket light and dimmer switch...too bad I think the gauges would be a lot easier to see at night.






I might try to get the 63-64 f100 embelem below the speedometer like they did here with the bronco script

This bezel came from a 66 F100 I6 city truck with Ford wiring so it may be original. Has the 80 psi as posted above.

I dont think they used those in anything else so I think they are the standard issue ones...but I havent gone looking for them either...then again..granted im all about oil pressure..but 90? that may be a bit much for the street and in a bronco

That bothers me too. It's one of the many things on the list of stuff to do, but I figure I should worry about putting my cab back on the frame ...
