My dad planted 10 acres of soybeans
Back then , this area just didn’t raise very many soybeans
And doing it “dry land” ( no irrigation , just rainfall) was kinda risky
He farmed about 600 acres mostly wheat….
But they grew pretty good & made 30 bushel per acre
One nice 300 bushel truck load….
He sold them for more than $10 a bushel
I think he got close to $3500 dollars
He took money and bought a brand new 1971 F250
Plain Jane , 2wd no AC , am radio
But 10 acres bought a new truck ….
Good beans around here this year made 45 bushel per acre
They are about $13 per bushel
That is which is just around $5000
And guess what … that’s about what it takes to buy
A 1971 F250 !
Soybean prices since 1970
