very nice thread.

I might have to take my wee little camera phone down and snap some pics myself. On my recent quest for my truck I ran across quite a few of them in various little corners of my part of the world. In fact I'm having to stop myself from buying more of them heh.

Found a couple sitting in an impound lot. Looks like they've been there for a while already. I thought I'd ask if they were for sale...I'm sorry I did.
When I walked in, the guy was all smiles, until I asked about the trucks...then it was NO! :cussing:
Ok fine, bye.

So then I went around back & snapped some pics over the fence. :D

This is the one I really wanted, probably just as well though, the floor's probably nothing but swiss cheese. :(

I don't brake the law much but...YOU NEED TO STEEL THAT UNI!

That thing in in good shape, I hope it doesn't rot away!

 That thought crossed my mind too!
It's parked next to a fence that's beside some nasty train tracks. If it weren't for the train tracks, I would have possibly done something about it.
Oh well, maybe I'll try my luck again in a few months, hopefully he won't be so crabby, or maybe someone else will be there & be easier to work with.

I took a little spin around the neighborhood, and found 4 trucks within 10 miles of me.

These two are a bit hard to see, but there were quite a ways back from the road and I couldnt get a better shot.

and

Image

guess they must be twins.

I'm a little curious what year this one is, I didnt get an upclose look though at how good of shape it is.

Image

This one is a little halfton 4x4 that I'm thinking about trying to talk the guy out of in a few months.

A few non-slicks I thought were kinda cool.

Image

This ice cream truck is just too cool.

Image

I'm not sure what this thing is, but I love this pic. Looks like an old Willys to me, but i'm no expert.

Hope you guys don't mind all the pics :)

The last one is a slightly bastardized Dodge Power Wagon.
The second "far afield" truck further up is not a Slick. I think it's a similar vintage Dodge. You can tell because the bed molding swoops down and up at the back edge. There's one of those for sale just down the road from me. Dodge sure didn't have anyone good in their styling department in the 1960s.

aha you're right about that not being a slick. now that you've pointed it out to me anyway.

what year would that power wagon be? It sits alongside the road here as kind of yard art and I've just always wanted to take a pic of it.

I'm still learning all the bodystyles of these trucks. My main focus before I bought mine was cars.

That M600 is cool, I didnt know Mercury made the bigger trucks for Canada, thought only the M-100 and M-250s.

Tough to say on the Power Wagon. They were originally designed and built for the military in WW II. The design was continued and built parallel to the 'normal' pickups in peacetime all the way up through the 1960s! And, it even continued on into the 1970s being built elsewhere (South America, I think).
The one you pictured could possibly be ex-military, as the cab originally was a canvas top the way it looks. The doors are from something else, and the gaps around the upper part of the door were filled in with some homespun metalwork.
They are really rugged trucks, and not at all comfortable to drive. Search the web a bit about them and you'll find a lot of info.

That's a 65 or 66 F250 Custom Cab. It looks like it's in decent shape from that pic. :)

Found a few more today on the way to an old car auction & thought I'd bump my thread. :P Which reminds me, I should go check on that Crew this summer...still don't have anyplace to put it, though. :hm:

Nobody was home, but I got pics. :D It wasn't in too bad of shape, not perfect, but a good driver. It was minus it's headliner.

This was next to a barn, on a small farm.

Image

Found this on the way home, but I didn't have time to stop & scope it out. From how it looks from the street, it's well worth the $2,500 asking price  , even if it is wearing the wrong tailgate. :D

Does the towing company do impounds for the city/county? If so they probably auction the stuff off after it sits long enough. I'd keep a close eye on that short Uni, even if the floor looks like swiss cheese it'd worth the welding to get one with that nice of a body. The crew is very cool and that red one looks real nice.
