Hey all,

Got the computer back up and running. Feel like my old self again.

An update, I drove the Slick for all of Jan. Only little problem was a loose coil feed wire. Truck shut off on me along the road 3 times, but fired right back up. Soon as it crimped it tight with a pair of pliers....voila. Runs great and drives pretty well for no power steering and not aligned (no pulls or shimmies). This weekend the bed came back off to be finished and painted. Soon will be on the hunt for carpet and headliner.

BTW - Also did the headlight relays. For anybody who has not done this mod I recommend it. Made a HUGE difference in the brightness. Cheap AND easy.

Red, you asked for pics of the fuel tank, hope these are not coming too late...

Low-n-Slow wrote:Bronco II tank is 23 GL. Fits great between the rails. I DID cut a hole through the frame rail for the filler (someone else had done the same on another side-fill install). I used direct replacement tank straps from NAPA. Will try to put up some pics when I get home this week. It DOES hang down about 1" lower than the center section. But the install was a piece of cake. As for the year on the donor, I think they were all the same.
There are at least two different Bronco II tanks. There is a 83 only or 83-84 tank and either a 84+ or 85+ tank. I know because I had to replace the tank in a 83, and had to pay more because it was a tank few carried at the time and those that did wanted a premium. This was before the internet was popular so things maybe different these days.

To mount the tank, you used Bronco II straps, not 66 truck straps?

By the way, the bed looks even better now that it's all one color. Body lines between cab & bed match up really good in the pics.

Dot,

Thanks for the compliments. Yes, the tank straps were from NAPA and I ordered replacements for Bronco II. What you might find if you look deeper is early years were carburated and later were fuel injected. Think my tank came from an '88 and it had an internal fuel pump, which I got rid of and mounted an external pump on the frame rail. Also, I learned later that you can order the tank new from NAPA as well. You would just need to buy the sending unit and all other components separately.

Hey low! very nice truck. what kinda front susp. are you running? i have a 88 fifth under my 64 and the brakes look the same. i love the tank! i plan on doing the same to mine. i like the factory look. i wonder if a stock pump on the motor (292) would pull the fuel up ? anyway i love the look! keep it up. Lee. It's Mustang II from TCI. Not a good option if you plan to use your truck as a TRUCK. At this point I'm pretty happy with it though. As for the fuel pump, there are probably plenty on here who could tell you for sure. To me it wasn't worth the possibility, I just installed an electric while I was making up the new fuel lines.

Haven't updated on the build for a while. Been doing the mud work on the bed for the past couple weekends. The bedsides are in polyester primer and as of this morning the wheel houses and fuel fill panel inside the bed. As of now all the ugliness has been cosmetically repaired. Another weekend and I should have it in the final coat of urethane sealer. Not next weekend, though. It's Bike Week in Daytona. Other obligations.

Will update photos when time allows. Thanks for looking!

FINALLY!!!!!
Painted the bed yesterday. Sprayed it in the garage and it came out pretty good. I'll post all the pics chronologically, from seam sealer, to primer-sealer, to paint.

Paranoid!

Paint brand is Martin Senour (Tec Base). Clearcoat is TC730 Speed Clear. The cab was cleared with TC 731 but I sprayed it in a booth and it dries MUCH slower.
Entire thing primed with Evercoat Feather Fill G2 for best holdout. Blocked 3 times with idiot stick - 120 ,180, 320. Primer-sealer is Martin Senour Complete, matched to the truck color. Sealer dried overnight and sanded w/ 600.
Bed is not polished yet, cab has been block sanded and buffed, so the bed will get it later this week.
Spray guns - SATA NR 2000 1.3mm for base and SATA RP 3000 1.3mm for clear.

Any other questions, feel free. Thanks
