292 engine in

Post by azratrod »

Image

this picture is a few days old but the motor is in and things are starting to get buttoned up. the 292 looks really small without the inner fender wells.

headers

Post by azratrod »

Image

i ordered "shorty" headers from reds headers a year ago and never mounted them. there were more important things to focus on on the truck at the time. then the engine threw a rod and i had to do an engine swap. now the new engine is in and i pulled the headers off the shelf. they fit great and there is plenty of clearance. i was worried with how low the truck sits that there wasnt going to be enough room

the header on the left or the top has been lightly blasted so that the vht high temp paint will stick better. the header on the right or the bottom got the same treatment. i painted them both tonight. ill let them hang and dry until tomorrow morning, then ill mount them

fender height

Post by azratrod »

Image

now that most of the weight is in the engine bay i thought i would remeasure the fender height. the last time i did this the height was ( ) with just a 3" dropped axle in the front. now it has the same 3" dropped axle, reversed eyes on the springs, and the springs were dearched. the new height is 24 3/4"

Looks killer man. I can't tell from the pics how is the clearance around the oil filter? Looks like changing the filter might a cold engine job!

just a closer detailed picture. i almost wish the brackets were at the center of the radiators sides so that it fit between the core supports vertical pieces. maybe a wider radiator with smaller brackets would look a little better. its the first copy of a 61-64 ford f100 radiator that they have done. now everyone else can get one too

still have to hang and adjust the doors, mount the hood, fix a few minor welds, find an oil leak at the rear of the pan, and...? she should be ready to roll for goodguys in 3 days.

up next after goodguys is to fill the stake pocket holes, fill the seams in the bed, fill the fresh air vent, lower the truck more by Zing the frame at the firewall and at the back or the cab. (garbz is being recruited to help due to his past experiance and expertise). i also have a big back window cab that will be donating the back of its cab for a big back window treatment. once the big back window is in the drip rails will be removed

I used the same Red's Headers on my 64 and I love the fit and the quality. I have never heard them uncorked, but I am tempted to do so.

Looking very nice...can't wait to see it in person.

uncorked reds headers

Post by azratrod »

64ranger, they sound awsome uncorked! got the engine running today. also got the timing, and everything gaped and adjusted. i would love to run them uncorked but they exit right under the footwells and i might pass out from the fumes. im thinking im going to just get a foot or two of exhaust tubing, run it back from the headers, turn out 90 degrees and exit at the point where the cab and bed meet. i do have some new cherry bombs that i could use also. depends on the sound and power loss or gains
