Slick 60's

I wonder if I can get this covered under warranty? It's just over 100k miles.

This is the rod that goes from the pedal down through the floor on my '65. Anyone have one? I'm really surprised that this failed.

The good news is it broke as I was backing it into the garage. I never get too upset when the truck breaks in my own driveway!

I always carried a spare. I broke 2 in the 20+ years I had mine. Fan belt, clutch rod and length of heater hose always under the seat. Always a fun time....The good news is that the clutch always felt better after I replaced it.

happened to my wife once in her 66 too.

Yep, I had one fall off of my '65 F100 in the pouring rain 80 miles from home. At least it was daylight and the weekend, I drove it home via all back roads to avoid any traffic lights and really had my engine rpm up/down to shift perfected by the time I made the 2.5 hr trip....stopping on hills then rolling through every stop sign.... yep, it was a white-knuckled ride!

they are not all the same length, and have a direct relatonship with the adjustment nut. the longer or shorter the pedal rod is the less or more the length of the adjustable part of the linkage.

thats one reason you see welded extra long adjusters or shortened as if the pedal rod is changed from original the stock rod and adjuster will no longer be correct.

So not an uncommon failure, huh?
Do they always break at the top?
OE part number should be C5TZ 7521-B if I'm looking it up right.

Yup, mine failed at the top as well. I had a friend weld it up for me, it's lasted over 2 years but welding it doesn,t always work. Got a spare under the seat just in case.

Your repairs look great; it must be nice to have the fabrication skills, tools and necessary hardware to be able to accomplish such modifications/repairs.

No, nobody on the planet has any. No repro, no NOS at any Ford dealers.

Once I get Big Red back running again I'm going to see what it would take to make some of these (and maybe improve them). It's a really simple part, yet it's got to be strong enough to handle a lot of weighed pressure.

lets clarify... are we speakin about long LINKAGE straight rod that fails at underdash mount from use[no adjustment,all same length,have plenty here] or the adjustable clutch ACTUATOR rod that goes in front of clutch arm?.Either part is easy to reproduce,with the right skills,would be glad to help out anyone in need..

yes its the solid linkage rod but they are NOT all the same length.

65/66 2wd are the same length, that is what he needs

I've got one coming from Arizona, and I came home today to find one in my mailbox! Larry from Bath, PA (did I buy mirrors from you?) unless I missed an email somewhere...thanks for sending it! Hey yours at least still has the bushings left! Mine are missing and the rod gives a nice rattle going down the road with no pressure on it. I should probably tend to that before mine fails.

Larry is a great guy - had a good time with him.
He also saved my lost, broke down in a big truck butt once.

wonder if the blackwater forge is interested in making them.
i dont think there would be any trouble selling them. especially as the bump and dent crowd would be needing them too.
