63' F250 4x4. Little project for me and my two children. Most of the heavy lifting was already done before I got it. Trying to post a few pictures. Made a little progress since these. This is a great site.

Brother thats what Im talking about. Lookin good. Hey Mister Goob is that still the original 63 front axel under your rig and what size wheels are those 7.50 and if they are where did you find tires for them? I see your staying with the 292. I plan on going 352-390 in mine. Still got the 292 laying in the corner of the garage just in case. Again looking good.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Hiboy-tires are 8-19.5 truck tires, big truck tire store for them. That is the original 44 up front I was told and the motor is a 352 according to the PO. I have not checked displacement yet to see if it's a 352 or 390.

That's what you're starting with? Cool!
BTW: Nice example of a "tall" transmission cover. Someone was looking for one the other day, can't remember who.

Yeah I see the big block dist up front now. I didnt look at the second pic good enough. From the side the first pic the valve covers looked like the 292 covers. When you look at it from the front you can see its a FE. Thats my plan for my mine is upgrade to the FE from the Y block. My wheels are 17.5s so maybe I can try a big truck tire store for those too thanks for the tip. The reason I ask about that front axle is that brake line set up I think my rubber line comes off the frame to the backing plate with no metal line from a bracket like yours is. That looks a little more durable. I think the shock brackets are a little different too. Do you know what gears you are running front and rear. When the time is right I will be looking for a later model closed knuckle housing off of a later model 250 4x4 as the gearing for those is not quite as stout as the 4.56s I have now. I hope to see more of your build.

Hey mrgoob I looked at my front axel and Im pretty sure mine is the 44 for that year. Just letting you know yours might be out of a later model 4x4. Id check that incase you have to order parts. I do like how its layed out though. Id really like to find out what year its out of.

Just a quick pic for you of the stock 44 on my 63. Yours looks like it is out of a newer model.

Your shock mount looks different too. Looks like some shock extensions on the low end of the shock for just a little more front end lift.

Sure would like to find out what year truck that is out of. It looks like pretty much a direct bolt in and a more solid setup. If you can find out Id be interested in knowing what thats out of.

"I wonder what year axle that is"

HiBoy,

Spoke with Dana today and they confirmed my 44-6f front axle May 1962 production which coincides well with the trucks build date of Sept '62. The only difference I see between ours is the one shock mount being different (one is just like yours), the homemade brackets for the brake lines and my axle just being prettier for the time being! Why is one shock mount different? I don't know, spoke with the guy who started the restoration years ago (20 year Ford mechanic) and he said that was the way it was when he got the truck. Pictures of the mounts below.

I just went out again and looked at mine, I have the brackets [ for the brake hose/line setup ] as does mrgoob [ I would assume factory ] My shock mounts differ from left and right and are the same as mrgoobs .

Thanks for checking Steve. Didn't know those brake line brackets were Ford parts.

Think the different shock mount on the driver side is to locate the shock far enough away from the steering linkage?

I would think so. Really surprised no one else chimed in on this.

What would you take for the yellow pickup in the background in the first picture? :D

Not mine Casey!-belongs to the guy that I bought the 250 from. He has had that truck for quite awhile and I think he is actually doing something with it now.

Interesting the differences .... Just went out and checked mine again.... thinking maybe I didnt ck both sides..... both sides on my axel are the same. I do see that the po on mine has beefed up the passanger side closed knuckle spindel housing where the drag link ties into it. It may have broke in the past as the driver side has been weleded in place too. Probably out wheeling and hit a rock or something. Maybe your 2 trucks have a heavier front axle rating. Maybe with that come those changes. Id have to go back and reserch my #s again to see what axle my truck is supposed to have.
