Slick 60's

Finally to the point where I feel I can start a build thread. I'll start with some pics of the 1st day I got it up to where I am now. This may be a long build thread because everything i do I do mostly myself and I'm an amateur at best. Want to say thanks to the group who is always so helpful and especially to Uncle Skip, Greg, Gary, and Alan who without their help I'd be nowhere. Thanks guys!



The first day I got it. Both the cab and the bed were in bad shape beyond my repair skills so I knew fast this was going to be a complete restore. No big deal. This was a life long dream of mine.



The one thing I did get a lot of compliments on was the seat



It took about a year which included moving from Texas to Pennsylvania and buying a new house but this is where I'm at now.





And the engine...only 27,000 miles.



In the next few weeks I'll be scraping, washing, and painting the frame with Magnet Paint. My goal was to have that done before the end of the summer. Hopefully I'll be done early. Any advice is awesome but be gentle, I am new at this. More pics to come soon!

Well Duke, it looks to me like you're catching on in a real hurry.
I didn't know you had a long bed 3/4 ton. I can't wait to see the updates.

I don't really. The 3/4 ton rear end was put on there by the original owner to use the truck as a farm truck. I got a 9 inch one off a 68 F100 as a replacement.

Duke, A little bird told me you had started a build thread!, and I just had to come and have a look!, as Uncle said you are catching on quick!, do you have access too a sand blaster? or some place close that could do it for you! as that would put you off to a flying start and not be too disheartened with " rub rub rub rub ", nice going Mate!

Thanks guys! I have a sand blaster but I thought the Magnet Paint wasn't supposed to be used if the frame was blasted. Thought it was supposed to go on the frame over the rust. I'm honestly not looking forward to scraping, but don't have the cash to sandblast, prime, and paint. I figured the scrape, wash, and magnet paint was the economical way to go.

Duke, I think you`ll find that you can use it over sand blasted area`s!, that Stacey David needs to be taken out and given a talking too!, what a dickhead!

I do have a sand blaster and tried it out for a bit today. I know it took some flakes off better then the putty knife. Not sure if I'll blast the whole thing but will for sure use it in the areas the scraper isn't working. Thanks for the compliments on the seat! As of now its the star of the truck.

looks like you have a second cab back there, did it come with a bed or anything else you can use? core support or anything like that?

I do have a second cab. I got it off of AZrarod. The original cab was so rusted I was afraid to sit in it. Aerick gave me a great deal on the cab. I'll take the hump out of the original and have it put in the new one. The rest of the truck is in a bed I purchased when I was still in Texas. Its in the back corner. Got a core support, 2 sets of doors, and everything else for the exception of cash to get it done fast. I'll take some pics of the bed. It will need a new bedside but compared to the original its a beauty.

I used the Eastwood equivalent to the por15 Duke... I just blasted the frame to knock all the heavy rust flakes off and rolled on over the small stuff.... It turned out well I think.... blasting is the way to go... I have a little siphon fed blaster from harbor freight....



Your build looks like it will take a while by doing it yourself.... mine is between years 5 and 6.... but it is what I enjoy "tinkering" with and in the end, it is ALL mine. Take your time, ask questions when you need to and do it the way you want it, after all, it is yours...

Looks like you have a 262. Is the tranny a three speed column shift?

Is that a 262? I thought for sure it was a 223. How can you tell the difference? And yes, it is a three on the tree.

Yup you have a 262. You can tell by that third rib on the block that's even with the generator mount bolts.
