So it looks like we wont be coming on the 2nd, it will be the 1/8/12!. Sydney to Dallas Ft Worth non stop! 14 to 15 hours, I think we land before we leave, hows that!
we are supposed to be getting a Ford Explorer same as last time, but from Alamo this time!, stay there a couple of days and then head out passing through Okla)(homa and west a bit then on up to Colfax to see some good friends and the Iowa Fair, don`t you know!

then back down to KCMO for the main event!( early of cause),
So if you know some good eating joints in them places let us know we might meet you there!

, Lyn wants to plan our trip along the Cracker barrel trail!. TBC

OK, Alan,
Are you just checking to see if anyone's paying attention?
You certainly are right about arriving before you leave.
By your post and my calender, you are already here!
I'm beginning to understand how ya'll came to drive as you do!

Never know what you can learn on this site
I thought they were simply called round abouts due to their shape. You're actually supposed to go around them?
There goes the idea of a northbound convoy. The combination of an Aussie driver with what appears to be a somewhat skewed time/space relationship along with my "FU, I'm from Texas" driving attitude might prove unsettling to the locals.
I don't know how familiar you are with D/FW, but you have the right approach in allowing several days to get out of the ##### airport.
I was afraid I would exceed my daily mileage allowance on the rental before I actually got clear of the airport.
BTW, if your route includes heading toward Amarillo, you might want to try the "Big Texan". Fairly decent road food, at least it used to be; and the entertainment value of their free steak offer is worth the side trip.
I have a list a mile long of comfort food establishments throughout your itinerary, but it is now considerably outdated.

We flew out of D/FW last time, and stayed in the area for awhile also, well in Mesquite anyhow

there should be signs saying it`s a dry town!, we went on a day trip to the ZOO, just across town we thought!, 45 miles across

was nice to see some kangaroo`s and a kookaburra or two!, they did look a bit poorly tho!. We also visited Michelle and granny down in Smithville and stayed in Bastrop a couple of days, also caught up with Brian Taylor in Grand Prierre, it was hot that day aye Brian!.
We went through Amarillo in 2008 but missed the Big Texan!, have heard about their steak offer tho!, sounds like you`d have to have your eating teeth in to go there!

Alan the Explorer has made a big model year change in 2011. It's built off a car chassis now.
Looks like this now.

Tom, we were pleased with the 2010 model!, the only problem it gave us was when driving through very heavy rain, the tyre pressure monitoring system said we had a flat tyre, so what do you do!, get out and have a look!, I got drenched!! and NO! there wasn`t a flat tyre!, just a short in the system, it righted itself once we were out of the rain!
