Lincoln 460 in a 1960 - Advice Please

I have a 1960 Ford F100 that I have installed a 1971 Lincoln 460. The intake and exhaust are stock 1971 Lincoln. I have also installed a 750cfm Carter carb and the truck has a 9in rear end, so it already moves!.

I am looking for suggestions as to the right intake and header to install to go that extra step and push the engine.

I am learning as I go - as all my past restorations were stock.
Help me become the rodder I want to be! :D

I have a buddy who installed a 460 that I built into his 80 F250 4x4. He used an Edelbrock Performer RPM, and Blackjack headers with a 750 Holley. Truck ran a Comp Cams 280H hydraulic cam, flat top pistons, ported heads, and ran really nice!! Lumpy idle, but would light all 4 up at a stoplight if he wanted!!! Very streetable, though. Just a thought.

I have a weiend stealth intake (holley) with Sanderson headers and a holley 3310S vac sec carb, if your looking for a cam to fit your needs try Cam Research they start with custom ground cams for about 140 bucks and usually already have spec cams for most types of needs as well they can break it in before you install and ship out in box with lifters in position, its about another 140 I believe for this, makes life easier this way for sure here is their websites

1st see what year your heads are.

If they are D2VEs they are the least desirable

71 may be a D0VE head.

If you are looking to skip a rebuild the best things to do is add a better intake like a Performer RPM, a 750cfm Carb, headers, an early timing chain (probably already have that) later ones are 4 deg retarded.
Recurve the distributor.

Get it breathing and get the power band where you want it, the recurve and timing chain will help.

The absolute best thing to do is be patient before you start spending cash and start reading here: www.460ford.com

I built a 1970 429 for my '78 back in 1987. I used the Edelbrock Performer (NOT RPM) and a Crane RV grind camshaft with a 600 CFM Holley. Casler headers fit the 73-79 chassis and might also fit the 61-64. I basically built an RV motor rather than a high speed motor. I drive the the truck from stoplight to 70 mph MUCH more than above 70. (But it will scoot way above 70.) That's why I chose the Performer and RV cam. They really shine in the stoplight to 70 range.

The '78 is a long wheel base supercab and weighs 4800 lbs empty. When the motor was fresh I could squeeze 18 mpg out of it.

What good is it to build a motor that produces horsepower at a speed you can't legally use?

because we can. 8) seriously though, I dont need as much power as some have but its cool to cruise and people know by the sound that I have an engine under my hood. I fire that beast up and people start looking. I cant wait to build a stroker. if a 460 is this good a 545 is surely going to be better.

Tracy,
I am what is called a senior citizen altho only by Birthdays & appearance. I'm really 19 with 48 yrs experience being 19,
so I've got being 19 down by now.

When some greenhorn shows up with his 4.6 Mustang GT Fastback with a Turbo & a royal attitude, NOTHING shuts
them Down & shuts them Up at the same time, as much as an Ol' guy in a loud, older Pick Up hiding them in a cloud
of tire smoke just warming up DOT's, & jump out & put a mid 12 sec run on 'em, with 10-12 lengths o' daylite betwixt us.

My Attitude is neener.gif and my 460 let's me back that up at will, that and a little wisdom of course. . . . scared.gif

People hate to get beat by trucks, but they hate getting put in the weeds by an old man Much Much worse . . . . Believe Me.

An old guy embarrassing a cocky youthful Braggart Badly is a life lesson, I know 'cause I had a many on my way to this point in my life.

It's worth it to me & as long as I can continue to do it when I need/want to, I sure enough will. I am a Teacher at heart myself.

So when BigTrip says "Because We Can" I empathize with that & I say "ROGER THAT" :thumright:

Tires are 315/60/15 MT ET Street radials. you would think they would get this thing hooked up  I have yet to get traction with them, so I will try my old 28/12.5/15 et streets again next time. Those hooked up halfway decent the last time I tried them.
and I actually got dad to go to this show

Greg,
I Bet you aren't a greenhorn, are you?
And I Bet you wouldn't go around biting off more than you could chew either would you. . . . . . . . . . !

My remark is not aimed at you, Mustangs, or 4.6 Modulars either, it's aimed at Greenhorns who think
a they can stay with 7.5L drag truck tho' nothing else is relative or equal.
