New member. Just thought I'd show the Mercedes 617 diesel swap on my 66. Crown Vic ifs is in, and motor is trial fit to make sure everything fits.

Lots of work left!

Interesting:) I knew a tiny bit about these engines, as a friend is doing a swap of one into his UNIMOG. He bought a MB 300 as adonor, and later found another which is now his DD.
But I was surprised at all the variations when I did a quick google search

The HP/TQ numbers leave me thinking I (personally) would become impatient driving one of these:)
Probably still an step up from the smaller 6 cyllinder:)

Which version of the OM617 do you have, and what trans are you going to run behind it?

James

James, it's a 617.951. Not the most powerful motor for sure. I live in a very rural area, so mainly it will be a back road cruiser. I just picked up the wheels and tires yesterday, so now I have to figure out what rear ratio I'm going to use. The 240 that was in there would have probably stayed, but it had a dead cylinder, and the bottom end rattled when it would first be started.

Trans is a 722.3 auto. Everything came from a 81 300SD I believe.

My son is a Mercedes tech in NJ, so that had something to do with my decision.

Lots of things to figure out yet. Biggest thing is the shifter linkage. I don't want to cut the floor and install the Mercedes one.

Bill.
