Slick 60's

I currently have a stock Ford 3 spoke wheel on my 66, see my photo to the left. About 17" wheel, I think. When I put power steering on it, I think I'll go to a smaller aftermarket wheel.

What are people here using for a wheel. Size, brand. How hard was it to install? Any photos of it installed?

I assume this is a Grant by the way the horn button pops off and hits you in the face randomly and rattles when you finally pull the spring out.

PS the horn doesn't work hence the huge button below the cluster.

LMC carries a pretty nice 16" wood-rim three-spoke steering wheel and they stock an installation kit for our year trucks. I "think" you can even get a horn button with the Ford oval inscribed. The wheel is a bit pricey, but I've seen one installed in a really nice '65 Slick and (IMHO) they are outstanding!

I just checked my facts at LMC Trucks and it is a 15" diameter wheel, with a 4-1/8" dish (Part # 48-1150) and the oval Ford center cap is included.

I would be afraid of going too small even with power steering. 15" is probably the smallest I'd consider. Tiny wheels look, well, silly on these trucks.
I'm not a fan of wood steering wheels from a safety aspect.

DV65CustomCab, I agree. Too small looks bad. Heavyhauler, what size is your wheel?

Dunno what size it is. Ill try to get a measurment tonight.

My 67 had a 14" Grant on it with OUT PS!!

anything less than 15" looks stupid...just to small for the cab.

I've got a 13.5 inch grant now. It looks out of place, but I have no problems steering with PS. I'm planning on replacing mine soon. It just hard to find a lager wheel with a shallow dish and I'm already a little cramped with the smaller wheel.

This is my steering wheel it is 13.5 in with no power steering a bit tough in tight spaces but once going fine[albumimg]2548[/albumimg],I dont think it looks that bad Alan

here is my Grant with mohogany wood wheel, it was 99 bucks from local part house (checker) had to buy adapter for it as well I believe its just under 15 inch diameter, pita to drive in parking lots without power steering, which im planning to update (hopefully this winter)

thanks, its a carolina classics billet instrument panel, you can buy them from the best aftermarket part supplier in the world National Parts Depot, as well as the classic instruments guages were from streamline street rod shop here in denver, they are actually beige faces but look white in the pics

How hard are they on the wallet? Come with or without gauges?

the instrument bezel alone was almost 200 bucks I found out later I might have been able to save a few bucks if I knew about carolina classics alone, but because I did get it from NPD im not too upset, they have done really well as far as customer service. no guages come seperately, you can buy them from just about anywhere, I was considering dolphin guages but didnt like their "cheaper" quality as well no senders, and classic icstruments came with the senders. they were around 325 bucks for complete 6 guage set

Hrm. I might have to consider it. I'm not big on the billet look, but I like the gauge layout a lot. We'll see.
