Painting seat rails?

Hello All,
I've cleaned up a rusty pair of seat rails and was wondering if anyone has painted these? These seem like they originally had bad zinc coating or something similar.
I'll probably just try and coat them with clear but was wondering what someone else had done.

Its been ages since i did this job, but I think I sandblasted mine, got them super clean, and then just used a thin brushed on rust inhibitor on mine.. no actual painting.
