looking at the map the other day i spotted some things that are in Kansas that seem a bit unusual but probably get lots of tourist $

worlds largest ball of sisal twine
i think my cats might like that

barbed wire museum
seems im always finding pieces of barbed wire out in the yard not sure if any of those are worthy of being in a museum

worlds largest hand dug well
does it supply the whole state

Dalton gang hideout
bet when they used it there was no road nearby
probably not a good hiding place anymore if its on the map

biggest ball of string.... ive seen it
perfect example of too much time on someones hands...

haven't seen barb wire museum.... I know there were a lot of different designs
good example of people will collect anything

I have been down the worlds largest hand dug well
a guy could walk down a stairway, right down to the water
too dangerous now.... you just look down the hole
NO... it does not provide the whole state with water
in fact... it produces very little water
it was made big, so it could store a lot.... for the steam engines
they neede a supply of water year round

I think we drove by that hideout once...
didn't see any Daltons
didn't see anybody

The (disputedly) biggest ball of twine, and the marker for the geographic center of the contigous states are pretty well the highlights of a trip north from Salina. Those, and of course the Kansas National Forest. Whoops; I forgot the Smith Center Surf Shop!

There's the Heritage Center ( Centre spelt wrongly ! ), with old phones, tapestry and an old Merry-go-round, which they will start up for 7 bucks
all ran by the Salina/Abilene, Hysterical Society ..... :D
