Tailgate install.

Hello All,
I did a search but couldn't find the answer. Should the tailgate go on with both hinges installed or do you have to put the tailgate on one hinge, then install the other.

I didn't take this truck apart and I got new hinges from lmc. It looks like the hinges are about 1/4 inch to long to slide the tailgate on with them installed.

Thanks for the info.

Put hinge in tailgate, tilt one end up, install, then the supports.

2 man job. Both hinges go into gate. Lay gate down as it would be open. Tilt gate up on one end and move gate forward toward box. When gate and hinges are in, lower the gate into position and put the bolts in.

which type of gate are we talking about

uni gates install one pin then the gate then the other hinge pin
wrongbeds are very easy because you can do it with the gate in the up position and the chains holding it in place

on the styleside gate i cant remember if the gate can be removed with the button type hinge installed but i do know later trucks have notches in the gate for easy removal

Just removed my Styleside '65 this weekend. I always leave one hinge in place and remove/ replace the other with the gate. Just stick the hinge in the gate, tilt it enough to slide it into the mounted hinge, and lower gate and remaining hinge into position. Close the gate enough to install the support arms and bolt the final hinge into place and adjust. One man, in the dark, with a downpour outside!
