I am going to say this as politely as I know how. Rat rods suck! Walk right past them at any car show.

iwill give you an exception
a nieghbor farmer (in his late 70s)
he used to. dirt track race in the 70-80s
one winter he walked around the farm & gathered parts
frame from this. , springs from that
old chebby truck frame
found a studebaker bed
a tractor front grill.......
he put it together in his shop ( he has stuff like a lathe & milling machine)
he drove that thing as an everyday driver ... go to the co-op and get feed
drive to the grocery store .... used it as a vehicle
it didnt look stupid .... just made to be used
sadly it was parked near a building that caught fire & it was destroyed
he passed away this summer after a long fight ....
he was a chebby man thru & thru
but i promise , this group would have liked him 100%

Pat we see several fads now Oh yes Rat Rods are in at places even at the big semi's shows, down here is a place that's all they build and big business in dollars, now another fad people taking rust buckets to paint shop and clear coat them from top to bottom and last week saw 2 at 10,000 and up But certain states will not allow since will not pass inspection due to that rust

Not a rat rod guy myself, but a lot of times, I can appreciate the creativity and work that was put into them. As long as they're safe, I say "why not". Not a big fan of tuner cars either, but if you think about it, that car to them is no different than a Nova, Camaro, Mustang or Chevelle was to us back in high school. It's what they often got for their first car, and modified it from there.
If shows don't start to be more inclusive, the hobby won't last. Think about it this way... What young person is going to be interested in a model T, model A, or something out of the 40's? When I attend shows anymore, I see the vast majority of the crowd is middle-aged white guys. I joke with Kid when we go to Back to the Fifties, that if you wanted to get rich, come up with that one item or thing that any older white guy would be interested in for his car or truck. If having rat rods keeps younger people involved in the hobby, I may not love the idea, but I'm all for it.
Heck, even our club... When I attend Slick Stock, other than a couple of guys, I'm still on the younger side of our group, and am now 56 years old. I know the Facebook site has more age diversity, but it's in any club's interest to encourage younger people to join and attend.
Climbing off of my soap box now.....
