All of the problems

Hi All,
Been lurking for a while, finally have a good story to share with those who will appreciate it. So I see an add in our local want add sheet for 1966 Ford F100, needs restored, best offer. Call the guy, ask the usual questions, engine, bed, northern or southern truck etc... Tells me southern truck, V8, three speed, short bed step side, a little rust in the floor boards, basically good shape, trying to get $500.00. Sounds good. It's about an hour away, but on the way to a place we go mountain biking, so I make arrangements to see the truck. Pull up the guys driveway, no truck to be seen, we're thinking must be garage kept. It was in the garage all right, but probably to hide it from the neighbors. This thing had every problem these trucks have ever had, including a real hack for a mechanic. Rusty hood, bad hood hinges, rotted core support, Fred Flintstone floor, 1 x 6 boards under the collapsing cab mounts, holes in the front of the bed, drivers door, cowl and fender mashed in. I didn't even bother to check the cab corners. There was more, but you get the idea. The best was it has a 302 installed on the original FE perches. The engine sat at such an angle that the bellcrank for the clutch sat about 2 inches higher on the engine side than the chassis side. No problem there, the clothesline wrapped around it will hold it all together. No disrespect to the guy that has the truck, but this thing was JUNK. A few minutes of conversation with him let me know he doesn't know anything about our slicks. He said it belongs to his buddy in Georgia, who had plans to restore it, but plans changed. I wouldn't offer him $100.00 for it, it wouldn't be worth it to tow it home to part it out. I hate to see any slicks go to the crusher, but this one is a candidate. Sorry so long winded, but I had to tell someone who would really understand.

sounds like the one i got for parts in ohio. picked it up on ebay the only thing holding the cab on the frame was the two rear cab mounts rocker were bad cowl rusted out even the roof was shot the box floor was toast the only things i could save was the doors one fender and the grill after selling what i could of this poor truck i broke even i did not make anything on it i just got my money back and that's all never again will i do that

Hey reeses, that's pretty close, only this one had the wrong year grill (mashed) and the engine installation was something to see. I'm thinking about telling the guy to call me before he sends it to the junkyard. I can't imagine anyone will give him any money for it. But then, you never know.....

scrap is up right now i took in a 65 and the only thing left was the frame the boned out cab and a rusted out box and still got 127.00 out of it

I pulled up to the regular pump and Harold Sykes and his kid came out and said " I seen better stuff in junkyards, where'd you ever get that truck" Glad to know someone else has heard that great song.

I have seen a few of thoes too. But on the up side you never know till you look. We found a 66 in a salvage yard last weekend that is in restore shape no real bad rust. Going to try to get it. May be bringing it home in pieces.
