Maybe a hammer? Looks like it is missing part of a handle, if it was there you could pinch the nail head and pull it out??

The wife and I like to browse antique shops and old interesting tools always catch my attention, but I have never seen one like that.

Have Fun!

It's missing the motor. It's an ACME electric, spring loaded hammer. The roadrunner done blowed it up...lol!

Looks like part of the cocking or trigger mechanism for an old flintlock.

Im just guessing ,but might have been used to shape the teeth on the sawblade during sharpening. We used to have a tool on the farm for shaping teeth on handsaws ,however the picture doesnt look like the one we had.but then it wasnt for big sawmill blades

Looks like one of those branch trimmers if it had a long wooden handle attached..... or maybe it's a tool for putting up fencing. Is that a hammer head on the one side? I'll stick with the fencing idea if it is.

If nothing else, it's interesting. probably find out it's part of an apple peeler or off a steam engine or some other obscure use that we haven't had a need for in 50 years!

Beat's me. :dontknow:

It does look like it should have a handle on that left side, though.

the one side is like a hammerhead.
when squeezed together so the "jaws" are closed both heads are parrallel.
the handle does appear to have been broken/shortened at some point.
the spring is not the original, it has been replaced at some point as it is newer and shiny.the jaws teeth are sharpened.

I bet if you contact the WYCC show the Woodwright's shop you'll get an answer.

Otherwise it looks like something Homer invented.... :burp: :burp:

Tha phone company has a tree trimmer that looks a lot like what you have. It is mounted on a long pole which would be the part sticking down in the pix. The part that looks like a hammer head to the left would have a pully attached and a rope attached to the pole at one end passing through the pully and down to the operator that you pulled (jerked)closing the jaws and cutting the limb. :dontknow:

i think it's for removing the teeth from a circle mill blade . you can replace them so you dont have to but a new one every time you hit some old farm implment or engine block left in a tree

Rob, that does make sense because as i said my mother in law had seen one at the sawmill when she was a kid.
