1964 was first year for Camper Special package
Picture is not very clear, but this is one rare bird, the 64 version of the Camper Special. These packages came out very late in the 64 model year and very few were made.Plastic inserts in emblem do not say 250. Unfortunately these plastic inserts weather bad over time and you may not know you are looking at one.

Now, now...I like those mirrors. I've got them on my '66 F350 and they rock for towing and backing up with a 7x10 flatbed. The third arm brace makes 'em stay put as well - they don't swing like Jr. West Coast style when you slam the doors.
I think the camper special also includes the little toolbox under the bed on a styleside, correct? Darn handy little cubbyhole for tools & it locks.
Unlike the rest of my trucks <g>

there were actually 2 different camper packages
the Custom Camper pkg and the Deluxe Camper pkg
The Deluxe Camper package included the Custom Camper Package
They would have had the camper special ornament along with the 70 amp battery, dual western mirrors, extended tailpipe, oil and ammeter gauges along with camper wiring as std equip.
Plus the other features of the camper packages.
Mine came with a 4:10, dual batteries, Power Steering & Power brakes along with the Deluxe Camper Package.
Extra cooling and deluxe heater were also part of package

BYR- My house closes 9/23, job starts 9/08 & I really enjoy the area. I was wondering if
anyone owned a 64 camper special. Mine is close-a 64 with opt. suspension & a
chrome package-moldings,grill,w/s,sill plates,dash & the adjustable pole mirrors-but it's marked F100.
Were the CS all F250s? Thanks for the info.
Hope to meet up with the Prescott area folk soon.

No, they were F100 and F250. See the above article advertising. Most were the F250 so they could have the cab over camper.DCarr wrote:BYR- My house closes 9/23, job starts 9/08 & I really enjoy the area. I was wondering if

Most of the ones I have seen always leaked. The evaporator had a drain but for some reason they nearly all leaked to a certain degree, especially on humid days. Just last year I was faced with the question of what type of A/C to install in my 950. Since I had a dog house an under dash unit was out of the question. I didn't like the roof mounts because of the above reason and the fact that the hoses ran down the back of the cab and were unsightly. I ended up installing a Red Dot unit that sits between the seats. It is a unit that is made especially for big trucks that create much more cab heat than a pick up would. It has a large evaporator and a larger than normal condenser. This summer I made a trip from Central Texas to Huntsville Alabama with temps in the mid nineties and never ran the blower on anything but low speed.MeanMan66 wrote:Ahhhh, what? you don't like the condenser unit up on the roof?

The A/C unit before I reinstalled the passenger seat.

This isn't a CS but it is to me. I used a '65 CS as a parts truck for this one, and plan to make a truck box trailer using the CS box as it has the side toolbox. I will paint it two tone to match the 4x4. The camper is a '67 Galaxie Eldorado with turquoise interior that kind of matches the truck.
