57f100, if your axle has 3" clearance with your oil pan, I am not sure you would want to do anything to provide less clearance than that. Anything to do with the springs will move the axle closer to the pan. A dropped axle will not change the clearance with the pan. Just sayin', 3" is basically what you have for suspension travel now. Lowering it 2" more by way of the springs will get you down to one inch of travel before the axle hits the pan.
I do like the way the sway bar was mounted using the original shock mount holes, that's a pretty easy fabrication, and I can tell you that a swaybar did make a big difference on my truck's handling.Phil wrote:

i have a 62 with a 223. i fliped the leafs, removed 3 leafs and have a 3in drop axle. im about 2-3 inches away from tucking the stock 15in rims in front. if you get the 57-60 front axle it will fit a 62. only diffrence is the shock mounts and it is 1in lower in the center for oil pan clerence, that is if you have a 62. i know yours is older but i still had to notch and mod my oil pan. evein with out removeing leafs on my truck when i fliped the leafs the axle hit and dented the oil pan. i got my axle from www.droppedaxles.com amazing quality. note you will need 2in tie rod drop blocks with the axle. hope that helps some one
