I was told to stop posting about the oil spill. I was told yall we're concernd and that it was causen problems. And I was told yall can get infomation from anywere on the internet. Its just most the information yall have been getting is either messd up or days old. Look at my pictures, you see my boat and my tractor by my new shop lake marapas is a few miles behind were the boat is at. It don't take me long to get to get to lake borne from here.then in the edge of the gulf.so I haven't been feeding yall bs. The same could be said for MM's shop build. It would be easier to follow the progress through one thread, a "build thread".

This is the forum for that topic. I personaly have no problems with you posting about the spill as it directly affects you. As I do not watch TV or read the paper because I think they are biased and slant the news. I read all your post's. You are there and see what is really going on. While all of us are concerned about the spill I dont think our level of concern matches your's. None of our fishing or hunting grounds have been affected. While you are directly affected most of us are indirectly affected. And no I'm not saying that anyone here is apathetic.I'm just saying your level of concern is higher than most of us here. Which is normal the one who has a problem is more concerned than anyone else. But I have to agree that one post,updated would be the best. Just my 3 cents worth

I enjoy reading your posts. I consider your accounts of what is actually happening down on the coast more reliable than the multidirectional spin from the media. The conditions on the coast are going downhill and I believe will get much worse before it starts to get better.

On the subject of being told not to post on this subject, Who is so afraid of civil discussion? Who has so little faith in their beliefs as to not even allowed them to be debated?

I would. Post here but I haven't been inside all day, but I will say this, I didn't shrimp down there because I had to, it was a extra income. There are more than a few down there that depend on shrimping and catching different kinds of sea food, that's all ruined by a cheap oil company, and yes I said cheap oil company.look a bps record there are more than a few mess ups because of their cost cutting.I would love to have a tenth of the oil they have lost in all of the BP mess ups that there was no exscuse for.

first off we all understand how upsetting the problems down there must be and your level of concern because it really is right in your back yard. My response to your one post was not to challenge you, we were actually concerned about how stressed you seem to be getting over it.
I would like to ask you to please refrain posting so much about the problem down there on the board though. There is constant information all over country about it so we all do know what's going on.
In all honesty it kind of doesn't belong on the board. We do try to let people use the board a little to "get things off their chest" as long as it causes no problems.
I hope things get better down there - I am sure somehow it will work out.
BTW, that is a real nice looking truck you have there - love the blue with the trim and white roof myself. Looks like your shop is coming along nicely too - congrats.

This is the exact PM word for word sent to Jim about posting on the spill. No where in it did I tell him not to post at all about it - "refrain from posting so much" is far from saying "not at all". If not at all was what I meant, that is what I would have typed.
The point made about posting it in one thread is exactly why the PM was sent. I also don't see anything in my PM about no discussions about it either.

First off this site is for friendship, a specific era of old Ford Trucks and other similar issues.
Off Subject does not mean politics.
We have tried several times to allow "current events" discussions but they always turn into a debate of opposing agendas - that DEFINITELY does not belong here. They also frequently turn into and argument.
There are a few people who freely give of their time to moderate this site. The primary concern should be to keep spammers out, porn out, and maybe move a thread from one sub forum to another so that it will get the deserved attention.
I have been a member of one of the sites or the other since 2004. After a while with the friendly discussions, the good natured ribbing, the creativity, and the knowledge I thought I had found the best place on the web to be - people who were like me. I offered to moderate here for one simple reason - I feel like this is home to me and I wanted to give something back. I wanted no accolades, no power, or anything for myself from doing it. Darrell was also getting very stressed doing it by himself and as I consider him a friend I wanted to help him out.
Political discussions turn it into work - period. I should not have to think "What am I going to find now" when I click on the link that brings me here. Darrell is even more tired of it than I am - have any of you noticed he rarely posts anymore? It would be nice if Darrell and I could talk like we used to, not always about the latest problem or potential problem on the board being in the conversation.
I am by no means pointing a finger at any one person. As most of you are aware I have been just as guilty as the next guy getting into these debates. I like the subject matter too as you all can tell. I no longer feel the need to participate in it here - I have other forums where I can talk about it til my fingers bleed and it is a welcome discussion.
We even tried a politics sub forum - that was a real blow up. The amount of complaints were amazing. The most frequent thing said in those complaints? "Allowing politics in here will be the death of this group" - so far over all looks like they were right. You all may not be able to see the big picture of this but I read everything - I hope none of you would like the pattern I see emerging. There are also members here who moderate or admin other forums - they gave accounts of how the subject nearly destroyed those sites. I know that all the "hot topic" subjects are not political - they always end up that way.
Most people come here to relax, talk about cars & trucks, have a laugh and communicate with people they know. For those of you who have met a few members personally either at Slick Stock or somehow else this used to be more like a family. My cell phone contact list is about 80% members of this site - I had phone conversations with 4 of them just in the last couple days. THAT is what this place is about.
This has always also been a family site. 90% or more of my friends are on this forum. It disturbs me greatly to see some of them not being active anymore and even check in less often. It seems to go hand in hand with the level of political & current events that show up on the board. I also know for a fact that we have lost good members due to it in one fashion or another. I for one do not consider that acceptable or worth it to have certain subjects. There are FAR more places to discuss those things than there are to talk about 61-66 Ford Trucks.

We have always tried to have just 3 rules;
No Spam
No Porn
Be Nice or Be Gone
That last one is the most important.

It would be preferable to not have to make a list of posting guidelines & rules to enforce. I would still rather see that done than the whole site die.
I may also post this as a separate thread for those who will just skip over this one.
Again, I am not pointing fingers, singling any person or posting out. I just thought I might try to share what it's like on this end and what I see going on here in the overall picture.
Now if you all don't mind I have a Y block to finish disassembling.

I understand what you mean Greg, I also know it sucks when fun becomes uncomfortable work. As the membership numbers grow you will be faced with this more and more.
