valve cover bolt torque on 240

Is there a specific torque for valve cover bolts on a 240i6? I cant seem to find a number anywhere. Also is there a torque for the side plate bolts?

Just snug them down.If you try to get them really tight they will break off.Dont ask me how I know this,I just do :lol: Even if they dont break,overtightening will deform the gasket and cause it to leak.If I had to guess I would say 10/12 ft.lbs.Hope this helps.

Dave is spot on. The service spec book for my 65 says 10 to 12 pounds for the 240 and 300.

The book also lists the "valve push rod chamber cover" at 1.0 - 1.5 pounds.

Especially the push rod cover -- just snug it up. Keep checking all these for the first few months after messing with them. If the bolt is totally loose, then snug it again. If things are leaking a little, try just a touch more (1/8th turn or so).

The WORST thing you can do is deform the metal by over tightening, second worst is deforming the gasket. Both result in leaks.......

If you want any extra 240 stuff--carbs, intakes, parts engine, a runner, brackets, pulleys, etc, let me know. I will shoot a package deal on it all, don't want to junk it, someone can use it.
