Steel wheels ??

I am wanting to ditch my aluminum wheels and put something a little more right for the period.. What are you guys running and what did they come off of or where did you buy them.. I really would like to put on some OEM style factory wheels. Wanna give it a bit of a rubber rake, you know bigs and littles, and was curious what is the widest tire that can fit under the the rear also , I tried doing a search but found nothinghere.. Also if your running a similar combo please post me up a pic.. Thanks in advance Ryan

I have mid 80's Ford factory spoke wheels with beauty rings and caps. They are 8" front and rear, back tires are L60-15's and they clear. 64 F100 RustyW.

i got lucky and found mine on craigslist. i am not running them yet, but i have 15x8 factory wheels for the rear and am looking for two 15x5.5 wheels for the fronts.

all the major suppliers sell them already painted for what i think is a pretty good price once you figure in buying used wheels, having them blasted, and then having them painted or powder coated.

Just a minor detail, if those are "innie" wheels as they appear to be, then they are not factory 8 inch wheels, Ford did not offer them. Those are likely the very popular aftermarket wheels. The widest factory wheel for an F100 was 5.5 until the mid 70's! Hawkrod

I run black smooth steelies front and back for the badass look. I think running black steelies pretty much says you spent all your other money on the go-fast parts and didn't have leftover for bling. It means all business. hehe

Front tires are 205/75/15 and the rears are 275/60/15. I think thats about as wide as you can comfortably go in the back without cutting into it. Looks good to me...

I have the original wheels that came with the truck, which I plan on keeping, but with as big a tire I can put on them. Also, mine are tube tires, but earlier in this forum they said I probably can run them without tubes. I'm a ways off before I have to make that decision, though.

If you are asking about the F250 then the widest wheel was was the 16X6 for a slick and 16.5 only came in a 5.5! The wider wheels that we see these days are either aftermarket wheels (like the pair above for an F100 and the pair I am selling in the classifieds for an F250) or later wheels with "outie's". Big tires just did not exist in the 60's

innie/ outie refers to the hubcap style
innies the cap fits into the center
outies the cap fits over the center
this is referring to the small bottle cap style not the full size cap.

Wheel Vintiques has Factory Style wheels in bare or painted or Chrome. They are in Jegs catalogs. 5 x 5 1/2 bolt pattern, widths up to 10". If you have lower gears and no overdrive and want to slow down those engine revs on the highway, try a 285/70x15 tire on the back. No wider than a 275/60, but taller. Will slow down the rpm a bit.

i have not tried to snap a cap on them yet, but they have the tangs for the inside caps and measure right.

Where did you get your smoothies from? Or are they a "FACTORY STYLE WHEEL"?

Just for size comparison... Mine had 15x8 in rear with 285x60/15 tires. Wheels had 3.75" backspacing and everything fit perfect. It just barely cleared the fender, and my truck sits fairly low. (Not stock wheels, but thos lets you know what backspacing fits best.

If I was going to go steel, I would cut the8" rims off some Chevy rally wheels and weld them to original Ford centers. That way you can set backspacing to what you need.

i am running a 15x5 up front with a 165 15 and out back are a 16x12 with a 29x15.5x16 pro street radial 5-1/2 back space no rubbing at all .
