Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator vs. POR-15?

Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator (http://www.eastwood.com/rust-encapsulator.html) vs. POR-15 (http://www.por15.com/)? That is the question.

I've heard a lot of good things about POR-15 on this site, but it seems that Rust Encapsulator might be easier to apply, in term of less steps. My plan is to lightly sandblast the chassis and then apply one of the two. I know there's some strong opinions on this and I've love to hear them. I have a feeling the answer will be resounding support for POR-15, but I just wanted to make sure.

I've WATCHED a lot of Eastwood (Clint, that is) but have never used it, so I can't compare the two. I used the POR-15 on my inner fenders an d am pleased with the results.

I just sent an email to Eastwood to see what they would say their advantages are over POR-15. It will be interesting to see what their answer is.

I used the Rust Encapsulator on mine and topcoated it with their Chassis Black and think it came out pretty nice! Hasn't been on the road since but there are a few others here who have used it also and driven theirs with good results on the durability and appearance.

Just didn't want to pay that much to coat the whole frame and didn't like the shine of the POR-15, that's why I personally didn't use it. But I do have a can of it for other things and like it.

FYI, this is Eastwood's response ...

"I would go w/ the Encapsulator.
Better resistance to salt-spray as well as general moisture.
Easier to use… lasts longer in the can after use.
More compatible with a wider range of top-coats.

I would go with KBS Coatings. It's like POR15 on steroids. I like it.

l used 1 qt of POR on the 64, it was OK but l wasn't overly excited. lt is NOT UV safe, l have had recoat most of it with Rustoleum.
l used a couple cans (so far) of the Eastwood product, VERY pleased.
I have also been using Magnet Paint that l found locally, it's just over1/2 the price of the other 2 and l am so far real pleased with it.

I did the same thing as Max and used the Rust Encapsulator and Chassis Black and also think it came out pretty nice. There are pics in my build page under Projects/Builds. I've never tried the POR-15 so I can't compare but I would recommend Eastwoods.

KBS Coatings x2 - The best sealing technology on the market.

I just sealed the inside roof of my cab with KBS and it doesn't smell like petro when it gets hot outside. I topcoated this sealer with a sound deadener called eDead - liquid stuff from Elemental Designs and am quite pleased. It's a little pricey, but then again I don't like doing rework as a result from using cheap products.

What specific products did you use from KBS Coatings? They have a ton of products on their website and I would just like to make sure I would use the right combination of products.

I used their 3-step system which is AquaKlean, RustBlast, then RustSeal. It's really good shit. Period. I like the RustSeal paint mainly cause its not very sensitive to what you put it on. I've been slapping some of it on everything (with and without the other prep products) and its been holding up well either way. It just seems more flexible compared to other rust paints, not that I've used all of the others.

I've used Eastwoods product for some time, and have a gallon on hand now. Watch the can though as it is easy to poke a hole n. Also, if you poke a hole in it, don't poor it into the nearest plastic container. In my case it was a gallon milk jug. Didn't take long for it to eat up the jug. Should have known better but it was an emergency situation, and it was all that was handy.As to how god it is, or isn't, I haven't had it on anything long enough to judge. As of now, I am satisfied with it's performance. It remains to be seen how well it stands up in the long run. Mainly, I only use it on hidden spots like the frame, and those spots in the cab that can't be seen. Cab corners , inside the drop behind the vent holes, etc..

Wow ... this is turning out to be a more difficult decision than I thought it would be. I'm kind of leaning toward Eastwood, since my Sister works for Sears, who own Eastwood, and should be able to get me a discount ... but KBS sounds great too ... aarrggh !!!

I'm going to be using a ton of it on the truck, basically the whole underside of the body and the chassis, so I bet I'll go through a couple of gallons of whatever I use. I think the key will be how well I sandblast everything to prep it. I have a pressure blaster, but it will still take probably 20-30 hours to do. Who knows, if I blast it good enough I could just go straight to self etching primer and topcoat it with Centari (Dupont). Still have a lot of time to make the decision, though.

I used this stuff from ACE hardware on my FJ-40 Toyota floors, and on the inside of my 31 Coupe frame before I boxed it in, I will look for it in the garage when I get there tonight It is an oil based paint, it takes a day to dry, I just put box fans pointing at it and it dried roack hard, nice and shiney (they have flat and semi gloss) and I have had not rust come back at all. And my FJ see plenty of mud,creek,rock damage on a regular basis.. I am sold on it, its a brush on application..
