64 f100 front suspension swap

Post by Tigger! »

I will be swapping the whole front suspension on my 64 f100 with an 06 crown Victoria police intercepter one.

Does anyone know of any links, websites (with pictures preferably lol) or have advice on how this is done???? I'm just looking for some more ideas.
Thanks to all in advance!!!!

I've spent hours researching this - I've got all the bookmarks on my other laptop. There are like a half-dozen on this site, a whole bunch on FTE (look in the 61-66 AND 67-72 forums), and a few really good ones on fordification (67-72 but the info is close enough to be helpful on our trucks).

I'll post again tonight with whatever I've got bookmarked.

You can check out mine - linked in my signature - but I'm still only halfway in.

Edit to add links. Thought I had more bookmarked, guess not. Sorry for the off-site links. Enjoy!

I did a LOT of searching and came to the conclusion that most people seem to move the centerline of the axle 3/4" or more forward to better position the tires in the wheelwells (if you don't, after lowering, the front tires appear too far back). If you plan to bag it & run lower, you may want to push further forward - Grant at CT mag moved his M2 setup 1-1/4" forward to fix the look on his extreme drop. On my '63, the bumpstop hole was on my axle centerline, so I measured and marked a line across both framerails 3/4" in front of those holes, then measured across the frame the distance the locating pins are apart & marked a hatch across the first lines - "x" marks the spots to drill. I measured 2 more times, had lunch, measured again, crossed my fingers, center punched, measured again, prayed, and then drilled. After putting the front end under & lowering the frame onto it, it dropped right onto the pins. Nice.
That's as far as I got so far. When the heat breaks (my garage here in florida is too hot during the day, and morning & evening the mosquitos will drain you dry in 15 minutes) I plan to follow the lead of that guy in the fordification thread, page 2. Check out the detailed measurements & the wood shelf/patterns he made. Looks foool-proof enough to reassure this fool.
Good luck & let us know how this pans out for you.

Not to hijack the thread but, spray listerine of any kind, around door and window openings where they can get in ,and mosquitos seem to stay away.

Great idea! Unfortunately, I need the big overhead door open to work in there -- and short of taking a shower in Listerine (I'm sorely tempted), I don't think it'd help.

It is a pretty straight forward installation, duplicate the mounting points from the donor car. I moved the centerline of the axle forward 3/4 " also. The main obstacle is the width, you are limited in wheel selection, I used Bullit wheels which I like a lot. I cut the springs 1 1/2 wraps and I have contact on full lock turns, I'm going to raise it up about 1" to cure that issue. It rides and drives great and stops on a dime! I' running an 8.8 rear axle with disc brakes on the rear and have CVPI stab bars frt and rear.
Take a look at the installation in my album.
Good lucki

O.K. GDG. I went and looked at your pics and it seems that we are talking about two different IFS's. I dont know what yours is but I like it!!!! Very nice 64 by the way! That we have in common. Im going to guess that is a CV IFS? It looks very nice. great looking install. I would love to hear more about your IFS and the gas tank install. Im i the middle of doing a Bronco II rear tank, but I really don't like how low it sits. It's almost below the rearend and to me that doesn't seem very safe. It's still not to late to go another route on my tank. LEE

Lee's 64, my frt end is an 03 CVPI and the tank is an early Mustang. Uncle Skip has posted a very informative article on installing a Mustang tank, there have been other postings on Bronco tank installations. I based my installation on Skip's article.

Great truck, Doug! What color of white is it? Do you have any trouble with the front tires rubbing on sharp turns? Really nice job!!
